Twins Birthday Party help

Hi all

As my OH has a bouncy castle business thought it would be a cheap option to invite friends and family of our soon to be 3 year old twins round. I am starting to get worried now though as alot of family have said they will come and also the boys friends from nursery are all replying saying yes

Can anyone give me some cheap ideas for the following:

1. Party food - for around 30 people including kids

2. Party bags - about 20

3. Party games - for 2/3 year olds

How do I get myself into these situations????

food wise i'd ask family to bring something and then i;d do sausages rolls and sandwichs carrot sticks, grapes, jelly and icecream and wee fairy cakes

for party bags go to poundland and they do a pack of 9 bubbles for £1, also get a few sets of cars and some girly hair bits then split them into girl/boy bags with a wee packet of haribo and a wee bar of fudge or something (if you can find them cheap bouncy balls always go down well in part bags)

games is a hard one, you could do pass the parcel but the problem is at that age kids might feel left out so u need a gift for every child and to time ur music so they all get one, you could play a huge game or duck duck goose, also you could get inflatable goal posts

good luck your gonna need it :p

Mini pizzas made from half a bought (bread) muffin spread with tomato sauce pizza topping (either HM or out of a jar), add sprinkles of veg on top like frozen peas, sweet corn, chopped pepper, mushrooms etc finally add grated cheese and stick the whole lot under the grill. It's easy and quick to make more if you run out, small people with clean hands can help, adults and children will eat them.

In terms of party bags, why don't you see if a local shop would let you have some paper bags with handles (places like fast food outlets)? If you provide a space with glue sticks and collage-type bits to stick on, strips of fabric to make bows to tie on the handles, and crayons to decorate with, each child can manufacture their own party bag to take home. Put an adult in charge of the activity, write the child's name inside when the bag's finished. Children' can make their bags as a quiet sit-down activity in between bouncing!

    Good luck,

    Hi proudmumof4!
It's during these times that you can really be called a Supermom!
Since the party will be attended by mostly toddlers, finger food will be best (mini sandwiches, pizza rolls, croquette, cupcakes, chicken wings, etc.) For party bags, there are various websites that offer themed party bags, all you have to do is choose. I wouldn't really have organized games for 2-3 year-olds though as they have very little attention span. How about substituting the games with crafts instead? Or if you can shell out a couple of bucks, a hired entertainer will be great!

Thanks everyone for your replies, thats given me alot to think about. Also thanks for the wishes of good luck, I am going to need it!!!

Maybe I should drop the games and just do some activities instead, might be easier.

I am going to raid the pound shop next week when I have more money but did pop in today and got the 9 pack of bubbles for £1!!! Bargain!!!! Thanks for suggesting.
  • Hi,

My twins turned 4 last month so i know what you're going through, lol.

We had a toy story themed party and food for kids was:

Fruit rockets - shaped fruit on skewers
Sheriff's pizza - star shaped pizzas made from pizza on toast
Lotso's strawberry cakes - rice krispie cakes with trawberries
Alien popcorn - green coloured popcorn

For adults, i just made a giant bowl of chilli and provided tesco value nachos, homemade salsa and guacamole with tons of salads etc that was simple and cheap.

    Hope this helps!

I'm glad someone understands my pain lol. It's hard work having twins, lovely, but hard work and the prospect of a party just seems exhausting lol.

Maybe it won't be as bad as I think?????????

My little boy turned 3 last month, and we hired out a bounce and slide. That, plus the toddler slide we already had in the garden, plus the paddling pool filled up with balls was more than enough to entertain the kiddies.

For food, I had french stick, sliced bread, ham, cheese on plates for parents to make their own sandwiches for their kids. ;) Carrot and cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes, lettuce. Grandma made sausage rolls, cheese straws, and rice crispie cakes. I made 2x Mary Berry Can't Go Wrong chocolate birthday cakes, as well as mini fairy cakes from cake mix. :D We also had the usual mini sausages, crisps, party rings, chocolate fingers etc.. Big bowl of tuna pasta. Plus drinks. Lots of different flavoured squash for the kiddies. Pizza in the freezer, just in case we ran out of food. Also had lots of ice lollies in the freezer, but didn't use them in the end. Coke/Lemonade/Orange juice/tea/coffee for adults.

Party bags, I got lazy and ordered bits from ebay. I went for quality rather than quantity, so didn't put much in. You could always order a bulk lot of books from The Book People which will work out at about £1 each.

Good luck. It was fun but exhausting. My plan B for rain, was buy more wine. :rotfl:

Proud Mum - I've done loads of parties like this for my boys (now 5 and 7). Firstly, the children will not eat as much as you think they will - they will eat all the crisps though!! Don't bother with the games - the children aren't old enough to remember the rules. Don't worry about any activities unless you want to spend the whole night cleaning up after them!

What I did was this - bouncy castle, cleared the decks in the house (all precious things away and all furniture to side of room), got out all the childrens toys so they could all be played with by whoever wanted to. Party bags are expensive, but people seem to feel the need - embarrassing if you don't sometimes! I made pirate hats for the boys - just waited until they came to staple the elastic on depending on head measurement; princess crowns for the girls - pre decorated by me. Then party bags included a balloon, cake, bubbles and some crayons or something. VERY difficult I found to get something suitable for under 3s.

Food was finger food - with adults (who were encouraged to stay!!! Crowd control!) being given soft drinks, and the same crisps as the kids - but with dips as well. Party lasted for 3 hrs, clean up was very quick as everything was either in plastic bowls (easily washed) or paper plates. Plus most adults feel they should help - specially if you start clearing up in the final 20 mins or so before the "official" end.

Would advise that you get a takeaway or something similar in for yourselves for the evening as you'll be shattered. Great party though. You'll enjoy it.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

I bet the kids had lots of fun at the party huh? What kid could resist the colorful array of food? This is a very good idea! :TI like these types of parties--wherein you don't go around like a mother hen serving your guests and making sure every thing is alright, all the while missing out on the fun!
