Party food ideas??

Hello,

OK so it's my sons birthday on Thursday and I'm in need of some cheap party food ideas.

I usually do lots of sandwiches and crisps and the usual buffety things but I am really low on funds so wondering if anyone has some yummy ideas that won't cost the earth?

Any sandwich filling ideas etc?

The only shop near me is waitrose too so cant stock up on economy biscuits and crisps etc.:rolleyes:

instead of making sandwiches have you thought about making hm pizza with various toppings, garlic bread, salad and hm wedges. i did this for my nephews 9 birthday and he loved it so much and all the kids ate it hes even asked if we can have another pizza party next time.

How old will he be - congrats to the birthday boy BTW- his age will make a difference in what to serve .. a five yr old wouldnt want a 15yrs olds curry or vis-versa.....

one of the best cheapest parties for my boy's
I did hot dog sausages in rolls ( fish fingers in rolls for anyone how didn't like sausages)
And for afters I bought BOGOF ice cream lollies I think cream eggs are on offer in tesco's at the mo.
Easy to clear up and no mess or waste

Massive tray of potato wedges, with ketchup and mayo is always popular and will boost whatever else you serve. I'm with shega, having done hm burgers for birthday tea. Less choice is a good thing. You know how many kids are coming so just do one each and a couple over, therefore less waste, It's soooooo difficult to judge with sandwiches.

Ice cream with hot hm chocolate sauce is impressive...cheap to make. If you want it more fancy then add squirty cream, sprinkles and value bananas.

Choc sauce is 6oz gran sugar dissolved in 1/4 pt of water. Whisk in 2 oz cocoa powder and cool for ..... keeps in the fridge for ages and can be used hot or cold. Leftovers (??? hello?????) can be made into milk shake/chocolate milk.

Individual jellies with either squirty cream or ice cream? would be very cheap to do and I'm sure would be popular.

things on sticks get my vote and mini/sliced pizzas, can we all gatecrash? See you should say yes and make us all bring a platter :rotfl: silly comments aside

popcorn definately, filling and VERY cheap if you make your own
sandwiches - keep it simple and depending on age maybe - jam, cheese and ham (poss tuna but sometimes find they get left)
pizzas/mini pizzas - another one you can make at home which would likely be cheaper than Waitrose
jelly/fruit/icecream
things on sticks, can work out expensive but easy to bulk out cheese with pickled onion, pineapple etc
crisps - see what's on offer, couple of bowls maybe rather than giving them a packet and them leave half
sausage rolls
mini pasties

Always hard but try not to over cater, biggest mistake made by many inc me, if in doubt make things you can freeze later

You could suggest that the children 'could bring their favourite foods if they like' usually kids are keen to do so and it might help.
