Fitting a new bath tap assembly problem.

I cannot understand why on earth you are considering fitting a basin mixer to your bath? Totally inappropriate and thats why you have a mismatch twixt hole and tap. You want a bath mixer for a bath.

The connections on this new one are likely to be either 10mm or 12mm for your bath is likely to take a lot longer to fill than before if the old one had 15mm connections.
Also the washer type thing Ormus posted is a good idea but it would need to be solid. Not Again0 -
keystone and 1984ReturnsForReal Many thanks for your input.
Thank you for enlightening me into the difference between the choice of 'size'. I now see the picture emerging more clearly. It makes more sense to keep the 15mm instead of going down to a 12mm. I am between the 'devil and the deep sea' with 'her indoors' as is often the case. I will take on board your valuable information and 'rethink' the comments of this Forum.

In the 'product details' it says 'fits any of our 1 tap hold baths'(sic).

Dippypud Many thanks for your input, maybe 'product details' could be written a little better.

Sometimes you could say "ignorance is bliss" but this can be costly in the end. All the problems with this "job" has come about from our search for a basin and bath tap set. We searched around for a matching basin / bath set having just one hole. This only gives a limited choice, so it was only when this Forum disclosed that the connections on a bath were of a different size to that of a basin.
Being a first time for me to experience fitting a bath tap, this is where I have shown my ignorance, coupled with the fact that the old fashioned 'plumber shop' is so much a thing of the past where these points would have been shared upon purchase. When you see a display of taps on show, the average person is not aware of the 'hidden facts' that affect the success of the job in hand.
At the moment our bath takes quite some time to fill due to the fact that our water system consists of a Worcester Junior Combi boiler. This boils the water and delivers it straight from the Combi to the bath, having no hot water tank limits the pressure of flow in the hot water system.
Again many thanks for your patience.

Hi,
I wonder if you are giving the dimension of the hole (35mm) not the overall 'footprint 'of the tap.
However I would agree, that the combination of the restriction of a basin mixer and the fact it fills the bath via a combi that may have a low flow rate to begin with, it would be unwise to fit this basin mixer.

Canucklehead Many thanks for your input.
The measurements that I gave initially...
The hole in the metal bath is a single hole measuring 46mm across.
Our new tap measures 35mm across.
The barrel of the new mixer tap is 35mm across, thus disappearing dow the hole as it were.
I agree fully with yourself and other comments made by member of this Forum, as to how unwise it would be to fit the new basin mixer. What I have settled for is a complete refurbishment of the original tap assembly by fitting a Tap Conversion Kit which includes the tap head assembly with new valves. The good lady is now delighted. So a night with the mates at the pub is now promised.
Many thanks to the members this splendid Forum.
