Fitting a new bath tap assembly problem.

Good morning.
Our bath is quite old and is made of metal and coated in enamel. The tap that we are wanting to replace has the name Visions engraved on the collar of the handwheel. Now for the problem.
The hole in the metal bath is a single hole measuring 46mm across.
Our new tap measures 35mm across.
Suggestions please.
PS Our local Plumbing Centre cannot come up with a solution. They suggested buying a new bath.
regards
Bob

Getting a firm fixing plus sealing that might be fun x 2.

ormus Many thanks for you input.
Your idea is a good one using the two plates, much more cost efective than buying a new bath..
Would I get these on Ebay ?
keystone Many thanks for your input.
Being in my 70s now, I do enjoy a challenge, but sometimes I get rather frustrated.
This was a point that I was visualising, how to get a firm fixing. MMM
regards to you both.

Spring along and have a chat with a proper old fashioned plumbers merchant. You know the ones with knowledge rather than the muppetry to be experienced in a shed (even if it does call itself a plumbing centre
)

Hi,
OP, could you post a link to the tap you want to fit ?
You make it sound as though you have one hole in the bath. I take it you do have a pair of taps on the bath as it sits now?

You certainly have hit the nail fully on the head there. I am of the age when retailers certainly knew quite a lot about the products that they sold and treated you like a human being giving their knowledge and experience. . Nowadays many of the retailers have never seen the contents contained in the boxes that go 'ping' at the checkout. They are not paid to be interested. Sorry about that.
Canucklehead Many thanks for your input also.
Here is the link, hopefully of the tap I wish to fit. Similar to the one that I have removed except for the 'hole size'
Its the Arena Mono basin mixer - hrome. I chose this for its swivel action and is the same as the one I will be fixing to the basin in the bathroom. The Superstore tried to convince me that my bath had 'two holes' as they had never seen a 'one hole' bath.

1984ReturnsForReal Many thanks for your input.
The pipework for both 'hot / cold' is 15mm.
The original was a Monobloc.
