    I did this and they as a gesture of good will dropped my tariff down by £15 a month and was a huge help.

    Have you tried to downgrade via the online chat, they are less strict (and competent) on that. I downgraded 3 times, the last 2 were twice in the same month from O2 300 all the way down to O2 50 via the chat. They didn't allow when I called them up.
