Tbh - If your Mum isn't paying its none of her business and if her friends are ringing her about it she just has to be honest and say well, its x's choice I'm afraid, not mine.
I had the opp problem, I'm lucky enough that my Mum and Dad are paying for everything which gave them (they felt) a god given right to have all their friends!
But believe me, this will just be the beginning of your problems; the guest list dilemma goes on until final numbers are in. ONly yesterday (with 3 weeks to go till mine) were some of my drinking buddies getting upset they're not invited - they're my drinking buddies not my friends but I had a massive guilt trip!0 -
im with the others, if anyone asks you about specifics regarding invites just shrug your shoulders and say you dont know (and why would you) nobody has seen our guest list except OH and myself,
i dont mean this to sound patronising but as you are about to planning your own wedding, when you get to the guest list bit you will initially think its a breeze and then all the little guilty problems start arising when you have to pick one person over another, one friend over another etc
should someone you have known all your life but you dont see very often come above a newer friend who you absolutley love?
should old auntie mable who you get a christmas card from and see once in a blue moon get a £50 a head place when you would rather invite that woman you work with... but shes got a husband and 3 kids.... etc
its a bloody minefield and despite the fact my invites went out ages ago, all the RSVPs are back and we marry one month tomorrow there is a few friends who i have known forever but now only speak to via facebook who think their invitation is going to come any day now...
be prepared for people to be funny about guestlists because when it comes to it you just cant invite everybody.0 -
Just been told that my mum and dad are actually putting 10k towards the wedding. So wanting 7 people (the friends she wants) to come I dont think is massively unfair. However she says she wont say anything as its up to him.
Thanks for all your responses. Its early days and I can see things are so complicated with weddings...not looking forward to organising mine lol
Thanks for your input.0 -

As he doesn't have much contact with these people, it might not have entered his head that your Mum would like them to be invited. Could you have a gentle word and at least give him the opportunity to invite them?0 -

When my mum saw the list she said oh so is so and so not coming and he just said no. She didnt want to push it and we just think well its his day so its up to him who he invites.0
