Depends what the service is for 1MB its excellent .
For 8MB it may be ok depends upon other factors .


But you dont say what you are measuring mobile phone laptop over wifi router cable connection .
Missing is up to that is an 8MB service is UP TO 8MB speed dependant upon two main factors length of line and quality from exchange and internal wiring in the place of use .

It is a laptop using TalkTalk wireless router,there is an exchange about 5 mins away

The thing to remember with speed tests, make sure you are not using the internet apart from the test itself (youtube, xbox etc) as the results will be alot lower than the actual speed received.

Well count yourself lucky - up to less than 2 weeks ago I would have killed for that kind of speed... I'm quite far from the (congested ) local exchange which means that the best my line was able to support was 500Kbps download, but I now have Infinity ok so I'm a bit far from the shiny new cabinet to get the full speed, but I'm perfectly happy with my 25Mbps

Try to do the speed test using the ethernet cable instead of wireless to rule out any loss of wi-fi signal or problems with your wireless card.

unfortunately, the mother-in-law has one of these, the line stats are on the first page when you log in.

OP, you need to give us the downstream sync speed and attenuation in dB, and the same for the upstream, then we can advise where you are with your download speed

Mine is 192.168.0.1 and the default password was password, which is worth changing
