Sky digiboxes

My ancient Panasonic digibox is due for replacement. Anyone got any recommendations?
HD not essential and Sky + not wanted.

    Sky only do HD/Sky+ boxes now unless it's multiroom,your best bet would be to either buy one off e-bay/car boot sale or go Freesat.If you are going to get one of E-Bay these are the best types;

    Theres an Amstrad HD only box for £99 available from Satbuyer

    although you could probably pick it up cheaper elsewhere

    Around here you can also pick them up free on Freecycle and freegle.

    Why does it need replacement? If it is no longer working (and assuming you still have a sky subscription) have you tried ringing Sky and asking for a new box for free?

    If it's a TU-DSB30 (not a 31), it was one of the best* ever made (the next is probably the Pace 2600CI) - with one of the fastest processors.

    If it's still working (the only problem I ever had with mine was it did not like a particular brand of LNB as the LNB started to age), you won't improve upon it unless you upgrade to Sky+ or HD.

    * I still have one (with the latest software) which I keep on my emergency spares shelf together with a spare standard DVD player, a working VCR and a spare DTT adaptor.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    No subscription. I have Sky Freesat. It's the original box fitted from when I used to have subscription.

    So I ask again, why does it need replacement? You havent stated it is broken, simply that its 'due for replacement', if it is working I dispute it needs replacement. I have had a couple of different digiboxes (as previous one had broken) and I can state now, there is no noticable improvement with a newer model (for newer models sake that is), in fact the only reason i replaced my panasonic box was because I upgraded to sky+ (when I say upgraded i threatened to leave due to not being able to record tv so they gave me a box).

    If it ain't broke don't fix it.

    If you just want a newer model go to the local car boot sale.
    That gum you like is coming back in style.
