Can anyone advise me on the cost of fitting a GSHP system for a four bed farmhouse in Devon?

It is also has a three bed holiday cottage along side it. Can I run that off the same system?

And i assume it uses electricty as a back-up when it's not creating enough power?

We're going to have a couple of wood burners too but this will be the main system for heating and hot water.

Appreciate any advice

A GSHP big enough for both properties(if feasible) will be expensive if the quotes posted on MSE are anything to go by. - £20,000 -£25,000??

Personally I cannot understand why people spend such huge sums to save on heating when £20k to £25k in a long term saving account(@5%) will produce £800 to £1000 after tax.

Not enough info, to even give an approx pump size. Sq mtrs of main house, plus cottage? Cottage require full winter heating? Insulation levels of both?
Rads or underfloor? Possible max occupancy for DHW size. Distance from main house to cottage?
Pump needs to run @ min 70% output, so the above heated floor areas are required.

Normaly the pump will only boost with electric for disinfection, or if the elapsed timer for the compressor running is over 1 hr.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Goulden..You need to agree with the HMRC beforehand about the proportion of capital and running costs for the holiday cottage business.
