Old Electron Card

NatWest have been really good with me. I've got a Step account (though recently upgraded to Advantage Gold) and the Visa debit card works very well and of course you can take cash out anywhere. I'd definitely recommend them.
Gone from Poor to Excellent Credit. Proud of my recovery. Never going back to the sub prime!

I wish Halifax would get rid of the Visa Electron, I can't get a bank account with anyone else who gives a Visa Debit!! GRRRR
I would keep the Halifax a/c open as I have a funny feeling when the computer system is merged with that of LTSB later next month that they will start to look at rationalising their card range and probably move over to the LTSB Cash card a/c equivalent Visa Debit Card.
It does not make commerical sense to have so many different card types on the go at once with so much overlap, in my opinion. It will require changing the LTSB system to go back to issuing Electron cards and I just can't see that happening.0 -
Visa Electron itself is so outdated - I can't see them either having it for much longer myself.David

The Barclays Cash Card Account is probably your best choice. You can withdraw from any UK cash machine, etc...
They only require one piece of photo ID to open that account.0 -
I want to try for the Barclays Cash Card Account, but getting an appointment to see someone in my local branch to discuss opening an account is an absolute nightmare - nobody seems interested or able to be in to help, just cashiers...
I've made absolutely loads of applications in the last 6 months to be honest I fell into the rejection sprial and feel even though I have no record of fraud, bankruptcy, IVA's, DMP's, just some defaults (just some) I feel as though my over excessive applications wil have harmed my credit file beyond repair!! Even for Basic Bank Accounts at the moment, I just don't want any more embarrassment!Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect and don't live to be. But before you start pointing fingers - make sure your hands are clean. Bob Marley - Legend.0 -
Why not get an Orange Cash card? They're free in the Orange shop so long as you stuff £15 or more on it, then you top it up like a pay-as-you-go phone, and spend the money online. Works anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Job done.0

Apply for the standard Barclays Bank Account online, If you get rejected and as long as your ID can be verified electronically your rejection letter will give you the option of the Cash Card Account. Simply sign and return for free and within a week your Connect Card and PIN will be through your letterbox.

Even Bank of Baroda have replaced their Electron cards with VISA debit
That leaves Bank of Scotland and Airdrie Savings BankHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I have a co-op cashminder acct and an electron card.
I had to select 'visa debit' to top up my o2 money the last couple of times recently for the transaction to go through, where as before I selected electron.
Any idea anybody?? What will be my next card type??? ( visa debit ) ?
Sometimes I've used my electron online where it didn't have the electron symbol on the website in the past.0 -
Your Co-op Electron card beginning 4508 75 is now technically a Visa Debit card, which in most cases makes little difference (I think Tesco on-line groceries and Debenhams are the exception).
I still recall when Electron could be used on the PDQ machines, the yellowey Barclays one and it always went through as long as you were under the floor limit or had enough money in your acccount (oh and could convince the assistant it was a real card and you had not made it Blue Peter style) and they worked for any amount in a train station until British Rail got wise to people using them to buy tickets and the transactions bouncing.
There was a day when a Visa card number was just that a 16 or 13 digit number, but now they are all segmented into Electron (which can technically be a credit or debit card), Visa Debit, Visa Credit, Visa Purchasing, and Visa Plus which is cash card only.0
