hi
i took a tv back to asda after 6months of purchasing it. I had the reciept and 12month guarantee, i just wanted a staright swap as the dvd was broken. They told me that the tv was no longer available as they had upgraded it and i would have to pay a further 20.00. the tv was the same make, size etc. is this correct or should they have given me the new model as the goods were faulty and i had proof of purchase ?

Just pay the £20 and be done with it.
Not the end of the world.0 -
They could have stated that they wanted to send the TV for repair, and if it was over 6 months since the purchase date, they could also have asked you to provide an independent report stating that the fault was inherent from manufacture.
Then if they were refunding you, they are legally allowed to make a deduction to cover the time that you've had use of the TV since you purchased it.
All in, I think that you got a very good deal, having had use of a TV for 6 months for only £20, and you will have a brand new, possibly better specified TV as well.0 -

if the item was faulty they they have to offer a repair or a replacement of the same model. if their price has gone up then they have to bear the cost, they sold a faulty item that they have to repair or replace under warranty0 -
For £20 you get a newtv, thats a pretty good deal, just accept it0

They don't just have to offer a repair or replacement as they could also offer a refund of the price that the OP paid
The OP could try to insist on a repair, but this may leave them without a TV for a while, and when they get it back, they would still have a 6 month old, repaired TV.
For the sake of £20, I would much rather a brand new unit that may be better than the original one.0 -
And if they did still sell the tv at a cheaper price, they give you the difference back - I had this with an iron!
You can either get your money back and buy elsewhere or get something else and pay the difference. I've always found asda very reasonable on their returns.0 -

ops i forgot about a refund. it is very unlikely Asda would take it away for repair stores usually replace or refund0 -
Sounds like they are offering a refund which you can then use to purchase a new TV but as that has gone up you have to pay the extra. We used to buy TVs from when ASDA used to offer a free 3 year warranty on all electricals, we got through about 3 28" widescreen TVs from them as they kept going wrong, each time they offered a refund and as the TV had gone down in price we got to keep the difference. In the end we had enough of having to keep returning TVs and got a branded one from John Lewis which lasted without any issue until we wanted to replace it with a flat screen anyway.
Its just unfortunate that the price has gone up, otherwise you would probably have been given the difference back if the price had been lowered.0
