Have to agree my water tastes appalling so needs to be filtered or out of bottles0 -
Amelia - welcome to the OS board and thanks for starting what looks like it's going to be an interesting discussion.

I think I've bought all of these at one time or another, and I can't see anything wrong with using them if that's what works for you (except maybe bottled water, which I can't see the point of except in an emergency - but that's my choice and I certainly wouldn't judge anyone who chooses differently
. ETA - just reading other posts it looks like I'm lucky to have tasty tap water, which makes things easier for me.
).
I definitely can't see why the original author has a problem with spice mixes: some may be just salt with flavourings but you can get some really good ones - I'm a great spice fan and have a cupboard full of mixes and individual spices, nearly all of which get used regularly.
Each to their own here, I suppose!

Add to that from my past purchases;
Cornish pasty maker - yes honestly, saw it in Lakeland and though a cheap plastic thing with a ready crimped edge would make fab cornish pasties but by the time you pushed it together all the filling had squidged out of the sides :-/
Toasted sandwhich maker - takes days to clean all the crevices0 -

along with the fondue set, the very expensive juicer and 3 juicing recipe books and the potato ricer (love it but its such a pain doing a couple of potatoes at a time) oh and those pesky wooden steamers
I nearly bought a ramoska thingy ....glad I didn't but I do love my slow cooker
Reading OS can be a very expensive activity sometimes

Hehe, yes a lot of those fancy machines do end up keeping the mice in the cupboard company.
But I couldn't live without a coffee machine these days (moved out of Islington, can no longer pick up a steaming cup within 30 seconds walk of home). I don't use it every day, but at least every weekend and it's certainly worked out cheaper than the take-away cappuccinos we used to guzzle by the gallon.
I've also heard of some people saving bucketloads by getting a breadmaker and others using it once.
The trouble with these articles is - obviously - that everyone's lifestyle is different!0
