Hi, my parents are getting the following message when they try to go on the internet:

this page is not available

The E-mail still works fine. I think they use IE.

Any obvious fixes or should they get a 'man' in?

Thanks Alcot - I asked them to try other sites and it isn't working on any of them so I don't think that should matter?

    1. click start>control panel
    2. in classic view open the icon for network connections
    3. right click on the icon for Local Area Connection and choose properties
    4. in the local area connection properties window click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click on properties
    5. In the next window that opened make sure that Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS address automatically both have the green button on them... click apply and then OK...

Thanks again - Alcot - I'll pass that on but it will probably scare them half to death...

I'm not quite sure why so many people above the age of 40 assume they can't attempt things on a computer.

I sent that info on and got this in response:
I got nearly all the way through your instructions but but couldn't find "apply" in your step 5.
I also could find where it might say anything about working offline
Anyway nothing happened and it showed "302 moved" when I tried to enter Google and then error 101 net: err_connection_reset the connection was reset.

    Any further thoughts??

    Thank you so much.

    Any further thoughts?

Thanks - I think they have that (or maybe have that aswell!) but nothing is connecting.

Also, how can you download a new browser without an old one working?

If email is working then its not a problem with the actual internet connection itself - would be bizarre if it were anyway :-)

A 302 error is a temporary redirect and definitely shouldnt happen when you try and visit google, it sounds to me in the absence of another idea like their hosts file has been somehow corrupted, unfortunately if they arent very computer savvy that wont be very easy for them to fix i'll give you instructions anyway but they must be careful, its a system file.

Which version of windows do they have? I can direct you to the file once i know that :-)

If their email works, can email them the program attached and then they can install it.
