I've heard that it is now possible to make a flat CRT screen. It sounds a bit sci-fi but it consists of millions of small CRTs..one for each dot!
I did hear about a year ago that plasma and lcd were just "filling in for something else".
I wouldn't bother waiting. There is always going to be obselesance these days, nothing will last.

I've not heard of that and I can't see how it's feasible, maybe you are thinking of DLP which contains thousands of mirrors.

The next technology I reckon will be organic LED as it's progressing rapidly, although will probably still be a while before it matures to large colour tv screens. But when it does it'll be ultrathin to the point of being rollable.

You might be thinking of Surface Conduction Electron Emitter Displays, but they are a few years away yet, and even when they do arrive, they'll be very expensive no doubt.

I've also just bought the Toshiba mentioned above from Dixons. I was worried about the SD picture as I'm not bothered about HD for now and I also thought all the pictures on the tvs in shops looked rubbish, but now the tv's arrived, the picture is stunning and faultless. It's a hundred times better than my old crt, but then that was a 10 year old 28" Bush. So perhaps it depends on what you're used to.
My 32WLT66 arrived to-day and I am having problems with set-up. I allowed it to Auto Tune Freeview Channels, but when I connected my SKY Box I get sound but no picture!! I also have a DVD player and a VCR, and there are only 2 SCART connections in the TV. Can you advise me of the correct sequence of connections and how to get SKY pics. Should I merge the VCR & DVD into 1 SCART?.

  • I produce TV graphics/animations and it's true that in broadcast we still use CRT's. I've got a CRT and a LCD my desk and always do the finishing work on the CRT as it displays so much better.
  • Well I won one. (so many places are giving away the sky subs and free sony bravia 32".....blah,blah (not that I don't appreciate it))

I had a Phillips 32", so I haven't lost out on the screen size, but boy! It's soooo much smaller.

I don't think I would buy one (if I hadn't won it) as I don't think 'now' is the time to buy. Many people are beginning to buy them now, so what you will find is that the prices certainly drop in the next year.

As for HD.... Well I only notice it if I specifically select a channel with it, I.e. poker. Which is something I don't watch, but do use as an example of the pic quality when asked.

    So save your money!

Just to check the config: your Sky box should be connected from "TV SCART" to "SCART 1" on the TV, then the VCR into "SCART 2" on the TV (leave the DVD off for now). Then you should have a SCART going from "VCR SCART" on the Sky to "SCART 2" on the TV.

And yes, I would probably merge the DVD and VCR SCARTs later.

MAGYAR Thanks for this but, your instructions say VCR into SCART 2 on TV and also VCR SCART on SKY to SCART 2 on TV. !! Is this correct ??

Sorry, that second one should be going to your VCR, assuming it has two SCARTs. If not, ignore this one.
