Faulty multiroom box - 31 day cancel for no service

Just lookig for advice on this.
My parents have two sky+ boxes and one of them just dies so I decided to phone them and get it cancelled, now they are stating it needs 31 days notice.
Can they really charge me an extra 31 days for a faulty box and a service that will not be used? If so how can that be?? If you don't pay the bill they cancel it in seconds.

You have to give 30 days notice to cancel your sub. Unless the box is still within the 12m warranty, then it's not Sky's responsibility any more-it's yours. Unlike VM, Sky do not own the kit, the subscriber does. Sky are still providing the service, you're just not able to receive it on your (faulty) equipment.
Why not just get a replacement for next to nothing on eBay (or free on freegle), or see the sticky at the top of the page for repairers? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Yes,because you are billed in advance,so if you cancel at the start of June, you have paid until the end of June. Why not buy a replacement Sky+ box off e-bay or a car boot sale?...Cheaper than a £65 service call.0

Or even cheaper just call Sky and say you can't afford the service call so want to cancel - they will normally give you a free replacement box - worked for me twice ! They will first try to give you it @ 1/2 price but stick to your guns.
Think about it - they would rather retain a Sky+ customer but you need to say "I want to cancel as I can't afford to replace". Don't worry about it - just say as above ... abracadabra you should have a new box PDQ !0
