Combi Boiler problem

Powermax 135 combi boiler only giving me lukewarm water. Just about warm enough to shower in. Is this likely to be anything I can fix myself or does it need an expert.

I have a contract for repair, so not a financial issue so far, but could do without taking a day off work.

These boilers are a nightmare and can be very dangerous. Although it could be just a temp sensor gone, I would recommend paying the extra and getting Heat team in.

Not many local chaps will touch them, or know what they are doing with them.

Horrid, horrid things. Yes - get your contract into play for a fix and also start looking for quotations / saving up to replace it.

Thanks for the input. I got up this morning and it seems back to usual after two days of lukewarm showers. Is it likely to have sorted itself or should I still get it seen to?

Out of interest, what makes them so bad? I've had this one for several years without any any major troubles, as have a lot of my neighbours.

I'd still get it looked at meself. Uncle Google will help with with its history.

Phone BG and get a one off repair for £99

British Gas came today and repaired it - a mixer valve he said and it seemed to work OK as he demonstrated it.

He then went on to do the annual service as it was about due and that's when the doodah hit the fan. To cut it short, he's condemned the boiler for CO/CO2 leakage, cut off the gas supply to it, and told me I need a new one.

Any suggestions other than start getting quotes for a new one as I've already started on that?

Mt first suggestion is to get a second opinion-and if that does confirm the diagnosis, get a local independent GSR RGI to quote, rather than BG.
Did he really tell you it's leaking CO and CO2, did he tell you what parts needed replacing, or was he just interested in getting you to obtain an install quote from BG (which will be about 30% more than anyone else?

Irrespective of the usual cynicism about BG (Including mine LoL) BG engineer was correct.

Immediately Dangerous (ID) is the highest level of risk and if Products Of Combustion are leaking into the property irrespective of what they were and how much he has no alternative but to ID it and shut it off. Correcting an ID problem doesn't necessarily demand replacement although with a Powermax its almost a certainly.

I would agree with getting someone else in.

Make sure you get a second opinion ( I used to work for BG )
I know of engineers that used to turn boilers off all the time ,some should not of been turned off.
Did they try and get you a sales man round to sell you a new one.
