Roughly what should the cost be to supply and install a boiler? The property has 2 bedrooms, 2 public rooms, 8 radiators to supply. It will need a new flue through a flat roof directly above the boiler.

Depends on what boiler you get.
you will be looking at anywhere from £1500 to £2500
remember to get the system powerflushed and a magnetic filter such as a magnabooster fitted.

BG has no legal authority to disconnect your boiler unless they seek your permission to do so.

    Did they?

    Second opinion required.

This is true but if you do not allow it then they will phone the gas transporters and they will cut you off.
So telling somebody not to let them is silly in my opinion.

BG are not the company a lot of people think.
They do still have some very good engineers but these are getting replace very fast with people who can sell things to the customers while checking there boiler.

this is from the flue or test point, not in the room, you shouldnt get anything in the room from boiler.

He was measuring at the time with the probe pushed into some insulation material near what he called the "Cylinder Module". He mentioned that he didn't get any reading near the burner (I think), which was his first test point, but that these readings were still not allowed.

The BG salesman has cancelled today so I'll have to wait longer on the quotation although one company - Bestheat - came yesterday and a local guy is coming tomorrow.

I think you will find that most older boilers will have some leakage.
some of the old hideaways etc the metal does not totally meet ,this would not be deemed a problem in my mind. (i know of some bg engineers putting smoke bombs in and then putting case back on to show it was leaking)
the engineer that came out has been paid to get a sales lead ,i would be very carefull in this advice.
You really need a second opinion from somebody that is not going to try and sell you a new boiler.

True and it isnt just BG either.

The gene pool of experienced, well trained nad qualfied gas engineers has gradually been diluted, mainly due to a reduction in the standard of training required and also due to training centres effectively just selling qualifications.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

BG treat there staff so bad that is why most of the good ones leave.
Want more and more from there staff all the time.
Just before I left I used to attend team meetings for engineers and none of them seemed happy.
It was the best thing I ever did when I left, I don,t earn the same money now but I am much happier and I can now spend time with my family.
