    Hi everyone!

I have just applied for an account with NATWEST as there is a local branch of that nearby so will have to wait 7 days now and see what happens!! :D

Thanks for the advice, I was going to give up as my credit rating is really really bad at the moment! Need to keep trying I guess :)

    Thanks

  • if you haven't already, go speak to the student advice centre at your uni - they can offer help in loads of situations (i'm in the one at my uni nearly every week!)
Boyfriend & I have saved £12K in two years, thanks to careful budgeting and keeping a record of what we spend. I've never paid myself this amount of money before - it feels great!

Halifax are total gimps, don't worry about it they wouldn't offer me one either and I've been a customer with them for 5 years (altho the account hasn't been used in the last 3). I'm with HSBC and they were happy enough to up my overdraft from £1750 -> £1900 recently when I had cashflow issues. Couldn't recommend them more, the 5 year railcard has saved me much more than the £50 cash offer as well....All hail HSBC!

I've been with HSBC for about twenty years and have three accounts with them yet they wouldn't let me have a student account

hi melancholly, I still haven't heard back from Natwest but a lot have things have been taking their time to reach me in the post recently, there must be a bit of a backlog or something? I'm sure the site said I would receive a decision within 7 days, which I think would take me to tomorrow so hopefully I should hear soon!??

  • Hi,

I'm having the same trouble here. I'm a January starter, which seems to make everything even more complicated. The student loan people seem to want to take their time, and the Halifax won't give me an account. I've not had chance to shop around yet, but if anyone has success getting a student account with a low credit score, please let me know.

This is far too stressful. I've never had to do much with my bank account or finances, and now I'm overwhelmed. Banking should be easier!
  • Hi

When I applied for student account they approved THAT straight away. What they didn't approve is the £2750 overdraft (Halifax). I just moaned I'd go somewhere else and they gave it me - but then again I've no debts or credit score problems (that I know of).

I'm not sure calling Halifax a "gimp" really addresses the problem of what's happening!
