LOL and the rest, America has that in untapped oil reserves on there own land. Funnily enough they aren't so quick to start drilling for all that oil just yet maybe when the rest of the world finally dries up they may look closer to home but for now they can rape the poor countries for cheap labour and huge profits on the black cash.
It was about twenty years ago they said if the world continues to use oil at this rate it'll all be gone in 50 years, yet the consumption of oil has been increasing year on year since then but only a few years ago they said, if we continue at this rate it'll all be gone in 50 years!!!
Obviously it will run out one day but not anywhere near as soon as some governments would like us to believe.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Yes and who will staff the shops, cafes, or provide vital services. Not everyone can use public transport and even if they did fares would go up. Many workers already facing the squeeze with wage cuts and inflation, but maybe you wont complain when the shops have less staff to come to work, or if you need a ambulance it wont come because less staff can get to workOil is a finite resource, that will only go up in price. Hopefully up a lot more.
Be careful what you wish for everything and unforeseen consequences, oil prices effect us all. Goods, fuel, heating etc0 -

And I guess you think those massive 15 litre gas guzzling buses run on the power of will, correct?
If we were to replace those 10 tonne, 15 litre buses with cars, that would mean 15 cars to one bus. (15 people x 1 litre cars = 15 cars = emitting the same amount of Co2 as a single bus.) Taking into the fact that during mid day and nights buses are mostly empty and run pointlessly, I think its fair to say that 15 cars emit the same amount of Co2 as a single bus. (also taking into account that people only drive their cars to and from work which is at most, an hour a day. opposed to 10 buses running 24 hours a day.)
When was the last time you took a bus 8:30 in the morning? Usually cramped full of tramps from the night before, fake people in suits, and loud school kids all squished up against the windows.
Sorry, but if you think people should step out of their comfy (how ever small) cars and onto public transport that is already f***ed full of people to a point where the doors close and you get squished in, and call that a better alternative, you are mad.0 -

No need for him to wish for anything. It's already happened my friend.
Oyster has doubled, fuel has doubled, V.A.T has gone from 15% to 20%, food has doubled (I used to buy kingsmill for 75p, now it's £1.54.) It's gotten to a point where minimum wage is exactly that... Minimum to survive.
Back in the day you could own a 2.0 litre car AND take the kids out on the weekend with what was considered minimum. Today? You're lucky if you can afford to get home from work. You know, skip that one last bus and walk the 4 miles back.0 -
When I was at school in the early 1980's we were taught that oil would run out by around 2000-2010 and look, what a surprise, we've still got 30-50 years of it left.
The fact is that as the price of oil rises, it becomes economically viable to extract ever smaller reserves so that in reality we won't run out of it in our lifetimes, but the price will rise faster and faster.
There are TRILLIONS of barrels of the stuff locked up in the Canadian Alberta Oil-sands and that is getting close to being economic to extract as the price of oil is now over $100US. There's even more of the stuff in the Orinoco (Venezuala) Oil-sands, we are not going to run out in our lifetimes.
The price is rising due to a variety of influences, commodity traders being a big problem, these people should be "taken care of". They are parasites living off other people's misery - I'm referring more to wheat traders here.:A0 -
Strider I don't care about climate change , I just want everyone off the roads, I suggest an additional £3 tax per litre on private sales, that should do the trick.
Since the price of petrol has risen, the roads are a lot quieter, but it's not enough!
I'm not completely selfish.....0 -
If the government encourage businesses to allow their staff to work flexi-time that would help. Not rocket science is it?:A0

You are selfish - and let me guess you live in London or some other major city where public transport exists and is reasonably reliable etc, newsflash - it isn't like that everywhere.
Outside of the major cities, people rely on cars to get to work, so my taxing at £3 a litre - these people simply won't go to work, and don't even think about suggesting they move to the city or get jobs closer to home, if everyone in the country moved to city and started using public transport - it would not be able to cope.
And most likely, there is only limited jobs beside where they live - they need to be able to travel for work
I personally work 20 mile away from home and drive this everyday, public transport just isn't available to get me here and even if the bus times suited, it would take an hour and a half to get to work!
My suggestion is limit personal travel using cars, by providing a rebate on fuel duty and taxes paid for commuting costs - should be easily administered through company payroll systems.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
OP - Its not the size of the engine - its how you use it. I have always had cars with fairly large engines and I've usually found them to be reasonably good on longer runs. Of course, in town larger engines drink petrol like there's no tomorrow so for shorter journeys I usually just jump on my pushbike - this saves me significant cash!
If you have options it might be worth considering how you use your car.0 -

You are selfish, ignorant and naive and your probably a banker with more money than you know what to do with. Lets hope your dream doesn't come true because there will be no teachers able to afford to get to schools to teach your kids, no nurses to treat you in hospitals etc.
It'll be great when the roads are quieter and you can't get the basics like a loaf of bread or pint or milk for less than a fiver.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
