HSBC have screwed me hard!

My online banking hasn't been working for a few days, I put this down to a technical error but today thought it's been far too long for such a big company to have such an integral feature down. So I phoned them.

'Sorry Mr. Amos you have no bank accounts with us'

PARDON!?!

You have cancelled your accounts and we cannot change this. Please go in a branch with this ref: xxxxxxxxxx and they will give you the money that was left in your account. If your pay has gone into the account still they will also give you that.

Absolute joke. I get paid tomorrow and need to pay rent in 2 days. Looks like HSBC will get me evicted and into debt from one massive !!!! up which they refuse to take blame for!

If I can't get my months wages tomorrow I am 100% screwed. Won't be eating or have anywhere to live.

Anyone else hate HSBC as much as me?

Any ideas for a quick resolvement? Happened to anyone else?

Cheers Guys

Very strange!! First things first, go to the branch tomorrow, get the money out. If you don't have another account, then go to a bank of your choice and get an account set up (phone first as you may need an appointment, and take ID). Pay in your money, and see about getting payments etc set up. If you have DDs set up with HSBC contact the relevant companies and set up a new DD, or make an arrangement to pay by other means. Inform your employer of your new account details for next months pay.

Don't worry about being evicted - notice for rent arrears can only be served when you are 2 full months behind. But do let your LL/LA know now that you may be late paying - they are likely to be more understanding if you explain in advance.

The I'd get on with complaining. If they say you closed the accounts, ask for proof. If they closed them, find out why. Good luck.

If they have closed your accounts then they will probably have given you 30 days written notice. This is standard throughout the banking sector. There are cases where they can summarily close your accounts however they are few and far between, usually to do with you committing fraud or becoming abusive to their staff.

Did you ask them for a reason?

Well they said I cancelled them. I think that where a machine ate my card in the week, they cancelled the account instead of cancelling the card/re-issueing. They denied this and said they have made no error and I made the specific request. Obviously they can't prove this as I haven't/didn't.

My main issue is getting payed. I don't want my wages to be floating around in limbo when I have rent, insurance, food, etc etc. I will let everyone know asap however of course. (What a bad day to find out, a bank holiday!). But I don't want to lag behind on payments and miss payments getting into debt due to an HSBC fool, Iive made mistakes like that in my younger days, and I do like to eat haha.

I have another bank account but I need to check it is still active as I havent used it for so long.

You can only close the account if you phone them or go in the branch correct ?

i cant view my HSBC account online yet (waiting on that security key... lol)

but is there an option ONLINE to close? if so... that would be very dangerous.

You cannot close your account online. Is this a Basic Bank account? If so, it sounds like (and I am just speculating) that 3 DD/SO have been returned, in which case the account is closed within 30 days. As someone else stated, a letter would have been sent out. If Op goes into branch the exact reason can be given, and also any funds will be in a holding account and can be given in cash over the counter.
    It's nice to be important

If your account is closed then your payment from work will probably not go into the account. Ring your payroll at work and ask what happens in this instance as they will surely have some sort of plan for when things like this happen. Good luck. Don't worry about being evicted that won't happen as you're not in arrears at the moment and as someone else said just pre warn them.

A machine will retain your card if the attached account is closed.

You cannot close an HSBC account over the telephone.
