ebay seller sending laptops via recorded delivery!!!

ok so after my scamming saga i finally got my money back and bought a laptop from another seller. I have no problems with the transaction at all, posted day after i paid and i received day after he posted.
The problem is, he sent the laptop via recorded delivery. I paid £125 + £10 p&p, so obviously if the item were to be lost in the post then he would only get a royal mail refund for £46. or do they not refund at all if the correct method of postage is not used??
My uncle is my postie and when he delivered the box containing the laptop he was horrified that they'd send something of value via that service. The postage stamp was £9 odd, so realistically he could have sent it via a courier, with the appropriate insurance for the same price/a little more.
would you tell the seller that they maybe ought to reconsider the way that they post items in the future? or just let it be???

Could always send a polite note to them telling them about different postage options, but theres always the chance they paid less than 46 for it so recorded would technically be fine for them as they claim what they paid for it.0

I would. My Post office always asks if my items are over £46. I would have thought that he's leaving himself wide open to scammers if he puts on his listing that he sends valuables by recorded delivery.0

Businesses can only recover what the item cost them and not what it sold for. So if he bought it for £30 and sold it for £100 and it went missing in the post then recorded delivery is more than sufficient.
I would be okay about that if the item was genuinely lost but it does leave you wide open to scammers and I wouldn't want them to benefit.0 -

why worry? its the sellers call
they are saving £5 odds per package
soif they suffer a loss/claim in less than 1 in every >26 sales then its fine0 -

Not necessarily, I can send with Royal Mail on my tracked business account. The most expensive (retail item under £150) is £140. I can send it to you for less than £2.50 fully tracked but with no signature and I am still covered as the item is less than £46 for me to buy. But as a buyer, I would probably be horrified. I would not use a courier as it would cost £6ish for the same item, plus vat.
Edit - sorry have just seen the postage was marked as £9 odd. So yes, a courier would have been cheaper possibly (for him). But, some don't take lappys and the like...so up to the seller.0 -

I think that's what I said??
As a buyer I wouldn't care less as the item clearly arrived ok. Even if it hadn't I would have got back what I paid and the rest is upto the seller??

I send laptops by courier with no problems for less than £8inc vat (not come across a courier yet that won't take lappies...Have used HDNL, DHL, APC, and another that I can't remember the name of...LOL)...Anyway I digress.:rotfl:0 -
