Just a thought ... the title implies that the increase happened just after you submitted meter readings. The same happened to me a few months back with Eon because turns out each quarter they have a billing windoe of ~2 weeks and they ask you to submit readings then - if at the end of the window you've not sent readings then they issue a bill with an estimated reading. However, if you do submit readings in that window then a bill is immediately issued. That happened with me and as a result the bill went out the day before that months direct debit arrived thus my account appeared to be significantly in arrears and the computer automatically adjusted the DD to clear these arrears. After a call to CS I got them to reissue the bill which now had all 3 DDs from the quarter - DD was still increased slightly as account had always been slightly behind since delays in the orignal move to Eon from nPower meant first DD was never taken!

So, I'd check the bill which contains the info on the DD increase and check that all the payment you expect to have been made in that quarter actually appear on the bill.
