Yes, an older non-condensing boiler will be much less efficient, and a 15 year old boiler probably has a pilot light. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's economic to change it though-it could take you years to recover the outlay.
It might be SP's cheapest tariff, but I wouldn't take their word for it that it's the cheapest on the market. Use a comp site with your annual kWh consumption figs, it takes seconds to check.
heres a tip buddy online energy saver 10 is over 130.00 a year cheaper than websaver 12 if there online saver 10 is what your on plus theres a 50.00 cancellation fee for switching before the 1st november 2011 I only know because I am on that tarif and when I check the saving it said minus 102.00 for me so your comparison may say minus 130.00 and you may be reading it wrong because usually old tarifs are cheaper than knew tarifs what come out its only when they get renewed they are more expensive than the new ones:T0 -
10% is a bit more than a little dearer !!

23990 / 365 = 66 kWh = 6 units per day. 4145 / 365 = 11 units per day. The sums don't add up. The annual kWh figures quoted = around £100 - £110 per month on the top 10 plans. Even adding up your quoted daily figures it comes to £120 - £130.
I use around 26000/4000 and was paying £95 until they reduced it to £82 last month !!
these are honestly the figures i was given by them ... as i dont understand how to work things out etc i have just taken them at their word ....0 -

Can you post a picture of your gas meter please, so I can see what type it is.
If you can't, have a look at it and tell me the manufacturer and the year it was made.0 -
i think it is an Actaris ... it also says M3 and it has a date of 2008 from what i can gather .... is there any chance this could be a problem?0

Shouldn't be as it's a fairly new meter, been out of the gas meter industry for about 10 years so this is a new meter manfacturer to me.
Might be a good idea to read it every week for a while and see if the reading takes a sharp jump at any time.
Also visually inspect the numbers on the left side of the index drum and make sure they are all in a straight line. The numbers on the right side will often be out of line as they may be due to turn.0 -
Hi all ,
sorry i have been dealing with other home things in the last week ....
ok today i have been in touch with scottish power again and went over the sums with them ... the new sums i have are slightly different from the ones i had last week ... i was also given the calculations on how to work it out ... here goes ... please bear with me
gas yearly consumption 3960
i have to then multiply that ( 3960) by 39.5 ( calorific value) i then multiply that by 1.022640 (value correction) i then divide that by 3.6 ... this gave me a total of 93.33 per day in kwh
in order to find out my daily usage in units i have to reverse this process ... i did this and it came out to 8.3 units per day which is less than the 8.9 of previous
electricity .... my annual usage is not the previous amount which was 4145 but is infact 4920 however when this was divided by the 365 it still worked out at less than previous i now use 13.47 units per day on average ....
the guy i spoke to apologised profusely and has put my d.d.m down to £112 as he said that is what it should be at and not the £180 i have been told it needs to go to
i am still going to be looking into changing supplier if it is cheaper .... i have been informed i have a £50 cancelation fee if i choose to do this ...
can i ask do those figures sound better?0 -
i have just inputted my yearly usage into uswitch .com and it appears that i am £93.40 a year more to go with BG than i am to stay where i am so i am in actualy fact better off staying put0
