I've thought the same thing for a while now Lynz - and I think I know what the problem is.... MONEY! It does funny things to people. There's so much avarice and greed around at the moment, and I don't like it because it's turning people into nasty, money-grabbing gits! Of course, there's always been those kind of peeps in society, but sadly it just seems more prevalent than ever now :(

It's called a 'boom'. Money flows freely, people are happy and self centred. The pain is glossed over.etc etc

    Then...

Well I'm not going to call a crash or a recession but anyone who is >30 should already know the answer to this.

Also everyone should remember that boom/bust is an essential part of capitalism, hence cannot be avoided. The only question is when and by how much. If anyone can answer this, then it's already here.

I woudnt say that! If someone was willing to buy my flat for 425k then Id sell it for that! I mean, you might have to wait YEARS for another muppet dumb enough to pay it,. personally Id snap the buyers hand off if this is what property is going for.

Personally bieng a moneysaving expert I know that theres more to life than buying overpriced stuff :A
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

(decided to go for joint agency instruction because nothing was happening on the house sale front)

but doesn't that suggest then that you're asking too much for your place and therefore you're moaning at yourself? :rotfl:
  • No it was because the EA was Crap! It worked though because we have had three viewings for far this week (one with the first EA and two with the new one) and someone is coming round for a second viewing tomorrow. We are happy that we have not overvalued our house - if you had read my op you would note that we had higher valuations but went for a price that we felt fair. However I did mention a house that had stood empty since being brought at auction in August and the owner was asking for an additional £17k for the place foe having literally sat on it for 4 months (couldn't live in it because it is derelict!). I am just amazed that some houses (not all) that are blatantly overpriced as being bought. It will come home to roost and since we are not saddled with a huge mortgage (and nor will we be) we will watch from the sidelines and feel little sympathy.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We have been looking to relocate, North. I thought I would find a fantastic house for the price we could sell ours for, South. Not so. In the villages I have looked at I need to find another £100k to get what I have got now.

I like looking on https://www.ourproperty.co.uk it tells you what prices houses have sold for over the last 6 years. Very interesting reading actually. Its linked I think to the land registry.

I found one house that sold last year for £200k and is up for sale now for £750K:eek:

There could be a lot of reasons for that though i.e. the house was completely derelict, the purposed threat of some large industrial development was abandoned by the government.

I know there are boarded up houses near me that were boarded up for years because some major road was to be widened. The road has never been widened and the houses which were derelict are being put back into use.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

I suspect a pair of ifeminate Scottish interior designers waved their collective magic wands over the place, and the clever use of "Space" coupled with judicious use of throws, and antique pieces reclaimed from [STRIKE]skips[/STRIKE] reclamation yards at vast expense - given a lick of paint and stood in the appropriate corner have in fact enhanced the value of the property by half a million pounds.

Oh, did I hear someone say cynic?

    Its now North Kensington darling!!!!!!!!!!!!

North Kensington sounds much worse to me than Shepherds Bush.

At least Shepherds Bush is a bit trendy.

North Kensington is full of bad estates, no amenities, and miles away from South Kensington, despite the name.
My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police - Margaret Thatcher.

and endemic social problems to boot.

I know Shepherds bush is pretty lively crime wise, but some aspects of the legitimate north ken ( not ea mapping) I wouldnt pay 425 pounds to live
