Just had a quick go on the calculator at the top of the page. By making this £1000 OP I've saved us £728 in interest alone and will be mf 4mths earlier! I do love looking at those figures!
verrrry tired today. Did not sleep well and for some reason DS2 woke up sobbing at 5.50am so he's being a little grump today! Hopefully I can stick a dvd on after lunch and he'll chill out and I'll grab some shut eye.
Dance class tonight, so that's something to look forward to.0 -
morning all,
Can you tell I'm determined to keep this diary bumped up this time?;)
DH was very impressed yesterday when I told him how much I'd saved us in making that 1k OP. he's really behind us getting rid of the mortgage, but leaves me to sort out the day to day stuff that makes it happen. That's OK, I enjoy it. just got to wait for the confirmation letter to see where we're at now.
Busy, busy time of year for us. DH is self employed (plumber) and it's just been crazy recently. We've just had a customer give DH the go ahead for a big job they want doing and that will be the whole of Jan booked up already- that has NEVER happened before, usually Jan Feb are fairly quiet, just bits and bobs. So i think once we get through Feb we'll book a holiday for later on in the year.
Got my brother and sister in law coming down this weekend with their kids, can't wait to see them. My SIL does Jamie At Home so we're having a party tonight, got a few of the school mums coming over. I'm collecting a set of crockery, it's really nice stuff. They're also MFW, must ask how they're getting on.
Right best get DS1 off to school. Have given him a few pennies for CIN, they're going in own clothes today and have a toy and cake sale later.0 -

Hiya Gillybean, this is a spam-free reply
Good luck with your OPs, £7-800 a month is a fantastic amount & will make a huge dent in your mortgage term :T
Have a lovely weekend, I'll keep popping in to see how you're getting on

morning all,
have had a lovely weekend with family, the boys really enjoyed playing with their cousins and us grownups had a good old chinwag. Have to say seeing (and hearing!) my very overtired 2mth old nephew yesterday has definitely confirmed to me I'm no longer broody! yes he's gorgeous and squidgy and I could just hold him and stare at him all day but oooh, it's hard work!
Looking forward to the confirmation letter from the mortgage people so I can update my sig this week. Bills account has got around £26 left in it so will transfer that out into my holding account ready for next month. And I've started my £2 coin collection again, got £4 in change yesterday. I've got a voucher for 2000 nectar points if I spend over £100, so weekly shop will be at Sainsburys this week. However I still need to go and spend £40 at Morrisons to qualify for the Xmas offer. Think I'll be stocking up for Xmas this week! Don't want to miss out on either offer really and there's stuff I can get that will keep in order to spend the necessary.
Right, best crack on with meal plans for this week and that shopping list!0 -
So I made an OP around 2 weeks ago, and usually i receive a letter within a week confirming the new balance and monthly repayment. I'd not had the letter so thought I'd chase it up. Good job i did....
The OP had been applied to my account and was sat there but had not been knocked off the capital!!!!!!
Errr, am i missing something? I ring up, say I'd like to make an overpayment please, and instead they just take my money and just sit on it? WHY would I just give them my money for them to 'look after'? They're backdating the interest, etc so I'll not be out of pocket but I'm confused as to why on earth they'd just apply the money as a credit to my account, it's a straightforward mortgagage account, not an offset or anything.
Very strange.
In other news I'm on a bit of clearing out mission. I've rejigged my kitchen cupboards and created a bit more space. Everything is more logically stored now and I've got some lovely new mugs on order to fill my new cupboard space! Michael Macintyre says everyone's got a junk drawer, well we've got a junk cupboard and I've even decluttered that! Still have a load of keys that I've no idea what they're for but I've stored them and will go through them another time he he.
New sofa arrives tomorrow for our conservatory. It's always been a dining room/playroom but we've evolved it a bit. The living room is now strictly shoes and food free since we decorated so we've got a TV and sofa in the conservatory so the boys can go in there, eat, drink and watch TV and play keeping my living room a kid free zone. Will see how it goes but I might consider getting Sky Multiroom so we can all watch what we want in the 2 rooms. We've got one of those 'magic eye' things so they get Sky in there anyway but if they're watching kids stuff I'm stuck with it too- not ideal when I'm tackling the ironing!
Ugh, the rain has finally hit, heard it's been really bad across NI and Scotland today, and now it's arrived here, just in time for the school run- great!0 -
Happy new year, everyone!
MF quest has taken a bit of a back seat, what with Christmas and all, but still managed to save £500 in Dec. It's still sat in my account so I'm hoping to make a £1200 OP once all the bills have gone out.
I've also started online shopping which is saving me loads, 20-40 a week on average. plus we're on a healthy eating regime so less alcohol purchased, less junk, and more of fresh fruit and veg and meat.
Still a flippin expensive month here tho. Dinner money, nursery fees, playgroup fees, Beavers subs- it all comes at once. I'll have it all paid by the end of the week, get it out of the way. Can't wait to make that OP in the next week or so!0 -
So £1200 sitting in the monthly savings pot, ready to OP tomorrow morning!
Next month I need to get back on track and not touch the joint account as i have been doing. if I ignore it, there's roughly £300 spare at the end of the month. In fact I'm going to take the debit card out of my wallet now.
Feel like things are getting back to normal after the festive frivolities!0 -
This month's OP DONE!!!! And it takes us down into the £70-80k bracket! Got my eyes firmly on getting to the £60-70k next!
Online shopping is working out really well, seem to be saving quite a bit dong this. Next on my to do list is to get Ebaying. I've got quite a bit to get rid of, just need to DO it!0
