I am so angry. They are turning my local netto into an asda

Options
Just popped into my local Netto store and it's half empty. When I asked one of the staff what was going on he said they were closing down on the 11th June and are going to be turned into an asda. I am so angry. I really like Netto, it has some great bargains on alcohol, homeware, garden stuff. Asda is nowhere near as cheap. I look forward to my mailout every week seeing what offers they've got on. The meat they sell is really good quality especially the chicken breasts. You don't get any of that white liquid coming out, it's 100% meat.

Why couldn't they just leave it alone? If I want to go a 'proper' supermarket then I can. I've got Morrisons 2 mins away, Tesco 5 mins and a big Asda 10 mins away. Who will the companies that supply Netto, now supply instead?

Netto wanted out of the UK market to concentrate on the markets they were doing better in, so ASDA purchased the UK stores from them. The companies will probably continue to supply Netto in other countries across Europe.

This has been known since Asda purchased the UK stores last year. They are all changing to Asda or have been sold off to other chains.

    Now that is a disaster.
I knew they had been bought out, but I was hoping they would leave it alone. Just found out about these Ugo stores, but they are none near me sadly.
Hate missing out on bargains :(

They're doing that tpo me Nettos too, sadly.
I wonder how much the Clover will be after that, it's always cheaper at Netto.

  • Yes I feel the same way. One of my local stores is set to convert to Asda in June, not sure of the other ones yet though. I have known about this for about a year now so have been shopping around a bit more to prepare myself. I have always found Netto to have very competitively priced food of very good quality - and I am very fussy about what I eat. The only problem I ever had with Netto was if I wanted something from the leaflet which when I had driven the 4 miles to the shop - they didn't have it as it, "Hadn't been delivered", or it was still in the back of the shop waiting to be sorted. I think I am going to notice a difference in my purse even though I shall be shopping around more:(.

I watched a news article on the tv last week which I think said that Walmart (owners of Asda) are looking for smaller format convenience stores as their business model of large mega-supermarkets in the USA was no longer the way forward. People want to be able to get in, get what the want and get out again, quickly and would only go to larger stores for a "big shop" say once every few weeks/month. That is the reason for the purchase of Netto I presume and also to compete with Tesco & Sainsbury's small store format. The only plus side is Asda's convenience stores prices should be the same price as their larger stores unlike Tesco & Sainsburys. They also mentioned that they wanted smaller stores to compete with Aldi in the US, so presume that is the same here too.

So it is very sad:(. I hope that the suppliers will be able to get contracts with other stores, maybe Aldi, Lidl, Home Bargain, Bargain Madness, or maybe Asda perhaps.

You can either get used to asda (ex netto store) or shop elsewhere

Well if my local netto is anything to go by I am glad they are going to be taken over as perhaps then there health and safety policy will improve.

Not sure about other stores but ours is dirty, stock on the floor, just the other day an assistant dropped some plastic milk bottles on the floor which fell of the trolley ok that happens but he never picked it up straight away but left it there on the floor for a good half hour while he did another job.

I have also noticed they never rotate there stock as there is loads of out of date stock on the shelf's.

Ok they are cheap but there is no excuse at all for a dirty store and correct handling of stock.

I will never go there again until the store has been refurbished into an asda.

    "Angry" ? "It's a disaster !"

Er it's a food shop .... Wish my life was so stress free that the "disasters" came in the shape of a supermarket changing brand !!! Some people must be short of things to moan about !!
