How do I get the drivers back?

Options
Hi, I hope someone can help, I had to do a full system recovery on my pc, I thought I had lost all my pics but my 15 year old located them on the old disc structure folder, but I am unable to get onto the internet , I have an Ethernet cable going to my router and never had any problem before, It has been suggested to me that the drivers are probably missing, there are a load of other files in the old disc structure but we don't know what they are or what to do with them, I would be grateful if someone could point us in the right direction..I don't really want to put it in a shop unless I really have to..thank you in advance.

It's Window's Xp media edition, I have found the drivers for the ethernet and it claims they are working normally.

I looked at me internet connection status and it states that it is connected but there is no activity?

Everybody else in the house connect to the router via their phones, laptops..etc

But the pc can not. I have took the ethernet cable , in and out, repaired the connection all to no avail.

Why did you have to run a full recovery?

  • are actually you connected to the internet at all? if you are connected, when you try to upload what site are you on and how does it not allow you to upload the photos? Im dont understand your post to be honest, can you give a little more detail?

I am not trying to upload any photos. I am trying to get back on the internet, I have tried to load internet explorer and sky (my provider..and they couldn't help) I checked the internet connection status and it says that the internet is connected but that there is no activity ( the part where it says packets sent/received)
I had to do a recovery as it had a virus that was not allowing me to do anything at all, I know all about it being a last resort and it was.
I would be grateful if anyone could offer help as to actually getting back on the internet thanks.

Try removing the software/drivers for the internet & unplug the modem. Turn off the PC re-attach the modem & restart the computer. This may just find the connection again. Or ask you for the installation discs for the modem.

I always recommend against recoverys for this very reason
If you had posted the issues BEFORE the recovery, it would have made things a lot easier

Have you got malwarebytes on the computer? if so run that on a FULL scan. If not, use another computer to download it to get it on this one

I tried unplugging the router and installing it again with the disk that came with it but still no internet, it's so frustrating, how can it say it is connected but with no activity ?
