I have saved up some money to buy a new tv as my trusty 10 year old 32" LG crt broke at Christmas. I have got Virgin but not hd but I would probably upgrade to their hd service with the arrival of a new tv. I have a Panasonic dvd home theatre kit from 2004 which will need replacing soon as well, I will keep the excellent speaker package and go for a av receiver and a bluray player, but the tv has to come first.
I don't have a 360 or PS3 but acknowledge that I may get one in the future so I am trying to future proof for as long as possible, I had the last tv for ten years and I don't think that it is unreasonable to expect to have the next one for just as long.
Now I had settled on TOSHIBA 37BV700 for £280 -
http://www.richersounds.com/product/lcd-tv/toshiba/37bv700/tosh-37bv700
But whilst looking at the Richersounds site I saw the Samsung PS50C490 for £530- http://www.richersounds.com/search/Samsung%20%20PS50C490
so I am think £270 for a 37" 2d tv or £530 for a 50" 3d tv.
In the next ten years more things will be shown in 3d as it becomes more mainstream so shouldn't I buy one now? Has anyone got one or has anyone experienced them and in particular this Samsung? Any advice appreciated.

Jim it's entirely down to your personal choice. I wouldn't be bothered about 3D myself but you might feel differently. The only preference I would have would be for LCD over Plasma because there's nothing to go wrong inside an LCD, no lamps to fix, no burnt out rows of pixels etc.0

Watt watt watt, no lamps to fix on an LCD TV, bit dim with no backlight Eccles! That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I've been told that for bigger screens it is better to go for plasma.
After watching films in 3d in the cinema, I would say that they are probably worth paying the extra if you watch a lot of films.0 -

LCD now go up to 50". Anything bigger than that you either have to get plasma or wait for the LCD technology to catch up. HD and 3D are a matter of personal preference. I love HD but don't hanker after 3D.0 -

It's probably the right way forward but on this one, like most things, I prefer to wait until it becomes a standard bit of kit and the price reduces - which we're seeing even now. The average is down from £1,000+ to £500+.0
