help with travel expenses for interview

Hi
I have been invited for a 3 day induction for a job in a different area.
The job centre said i am not entitled to expenses as it is not far enough away.
I really want to attend.
I am on benefits and the train tickets for the three day travel will cost nearly £60
I am thinking of getting a loan, do they accept people on benefits?
Thanks.

Do you have a job offer? Is it three days of assessment or a three-day induction?
If it is a 3-day induction, really the employer should pay your travel expenses. They should also provide refreshments (eg sandwiches for lunch) - unless they are also going to pay you your regular wage for the three days.0 -
Hi
I don't know how to word it.
The interview is over three days like in a group, role play etc.
The job centre has said no,as it's not far enough away.
I am looking for work in different areas as eventually i want to move and start again.
So i think i will have to apply for a loan, but i have no idea who will accept me as i am unemployed.
Hope you understand what i mean.
Thanks.0 -
Have you approached the employer about helping with costs? This is awkward l know but they may be able to help. Jobcentre has v little money to put towards things like this unfortunately. Also is the interview where you will be based? You need to consider carefully how you will fund travel once you start work if sucessful or fund a fast move to the new area. I would really advise against a loan as they are likely to be at an extortionate rate and difficult to repay unless you got the job and could make a difficult financial situation even worse.Halifax £744 and coming down0

Good luck, have you any friends or relatives who could help you out?Halifax £744 and coming down0

The employer is under a moral obligation to pay your travel expenses. It is not up to you to fund THEIR recruitment scheme. Ask them for help, and if they refuse then tell them to get stuffed.I didn't ask to be born!0

Good on you for trying! Sorry I don't have any advice other then that I would not go for a loan from a "place" to get me there, seems unfair on you if you are lumbered with interest as well! I would ask, beg and cajole as much as I could from friends and family. I know if I had the money at the time and a family member or good friend needed it for such a thing I would gladly help out.
The very best of luck with the job!0 -
could you not get a social loan to help with the expense??/credit card bill. £0.00

I am guessing that the OP actually wants the job. Given that there are likely to be many other people capable of doing the job (no offence OP!), telling an employer to get stuffed is not going to get them very far!Gone ... or have I?0 -
