Come over to the "Support Each Other In Looking For Work?" thread. All posters there are either trying really hard to find a job (or have only recently found a job) and will be able to understand how frustrating your search is. Pull up a chair and vent - people will be able to relate. We're a friendly bunch - promise you. :)

For a three day assessment centre, I have to say I'm surprised the HR department haven't offered travel and accommodation expenses, though. :(

Roughly 33 miles away, About £20 a day return over 3 days, its an interview over 3 days like an induction.
    Thanks

If the interview is over 3 days, it sounds like an assessment centre type arrangement. If the employer is willing to pay for that, it is likely to pay expenses. You really must ask: don't be shy.

Inductions are what happens when you have the job and they are introducing you to the organisation and your place in it.

33 miles isn't a massive distance! It would be cheaper to drive it... Any way parents/a friend could loan you a car with a full tank of petrol on the understanding you will pay them £60 when you get the job? Do you know anyone that lives near the interview location who is maybe a £5 train journey away?

I've never actually done this myself but a friend pawned a couple of things for money to get home at christmas and i think she had a couple of months to buy them back again before they were properly sold. You could get £60 now and buy it back for £70 in a couple of months.

You really have to think though; if you get this job, how will you afford to get to work every day for the first month while you wait to be paid? If your struggling to get to the interview, then you will struggle a lot more if you get it!

If you really want this (and it seems like you do),can get there if you get the job and it's only 33 miles away can you not look into buses, coaches instead of trains?Would be cheaper and you will get near to the place.
You can get some good deals on coach journeys too at times.

Have a look, don't give up just yet!

Hi, i don't really want to ask them as i applied for the job knowing it was miles away, truth is my bf died and ive not worked for nearly two years due to it.
I want to move and make a new start.
If i got the job i would be working all over the uk all expences paid.
So i would only need to pay to get to where the company is based and a few weeks, months later home again.
Hopefully in the future when i can afford i will move to wherever the job is.
So its just help with the travelling to the interview i need.
I have no-one to ask, thats why i thought of the loan tho i know its not ideal.

Look. You simply contact them and say you want to check that they will be paying travel expenses and will they be able to photocopy the rail tickets or do you need to save them for the claim because otherwise the exit gate may retain them.

You are perhaps still feeling down but one way of feeling better will be to do something positive. The worst thing that can happen if you ask this potential employer about travel expenses is that they will say no. That's better than not ever knowing. You could be missing out on a really great job for you.

Keep positive and take that first step of just asking about what to do about the tickets.

    Very best wishes

Stopping trying to put yourself off.

    You can find a way.

Ask them if they cover costs.

Ask your job centre advisor if there is any help you can get, again.

Is there anyone you could borrow the money from?

Look into a social fund loan.

etc etc there are lots of things to try :)

I've read through a lot of the posts here and honestly, some have been pretty good. It wasn't very long before you gave up on it though. It's starting to look like you're looking for excuses not to attend this induction. I get that you seem to have had a bad time lately but you need to perk up and have a bit more of a positive look on it all - the job sounds really good and with a 3 day induction, you shouldn't give up so easily!

I know some people who have tried liftsharing website. Try to find someone who commutes in the area and would be willing to give you a lift with them for a small petrol contribution of £10. Explain the situation and I'm sure they'll be happy of the small contribution to their fuel bill.
