  • Hi all - hope everyone is well. Just wanted to bring in my final update for June & I spent £180.75 - so I'm £7.25 UNDER this month - WOOO HOOO! But my dh & I agreed that I need to get back on track with my diet which will no doubt throw my estimations waaay off. I think July is going to be really hard anyway as there's 5 full weekends - which will be filled with food no doubt - so I'm going to raid my store cupboards & have my target for July £200. Good luck everyone!!

    Declaring £117 for June GC.

Spent £7 in M&S on 3 for £5 deli deal and two packs of sausages.
Plus £10 at the Farmers Market on loads of Fruit and Veg , bread /butter /milk.
Paid the 2nd Purse £3 per day for 23 days for the meat we ate from the freezer = £69 + £10 =£79

    2nd Purse
I didn't spend much from the 2nd purse this month, I have a good stock of everything we use. I have a Donald Russell order coming on Thursday 32 meals worth. So I don't think I will need to order any more for a wee while.
So breaking it down, we have managed on around £10 per week for the month of June. I'm absolutely delighted.

Mrs Mac please put me down for £125 for July.

We had Spaghetti/ meatballs and tomato sauce from the freezer for dinner tonight.

    Barbeque Beef ribs tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for your posts and support. Lots of hugs to those who need them.

    Hi guys,

Well, this month has been an unmitigated disaster. I need to declare £567 from a £400 budget (so spent 141% of budget). Also, could someone please put me down for £190 for July, this is only for 3 weeks though this time as we are on holiday for a week. Hopefully July will be a better month.

  • Ok...officially declaring £216.45/£200 for June, so I'm confirming £200 for next month just to see how we go! OH is officially a bad influence in the fast food/takeaway stakes so I'm going to have a separate budget for that next month! Maybe that way I'll be under budget! xxx

Hiya, just wondering if anyone has any good ideas to use a glut of broad beans? I'm having a lasagne tonight but will need to use the beans tomorrow and wondering about what to make for dinner (3 adults, 1 child who probably won't eat much beans). I have a choice of meat options below:
    chicken breasts (frozen)
2 porks chops worth of pork pieces (frozen)
    prawns (frozen)
    bacon lardons or rashers
    chorizo
    bacon ribs
(or chicken goujons frozen but seems a waste)

Carbs can be rice, pasta or potatoes, and I have a decent cupboard of staples, herbs, seasonings etc.

I usually just do a smashed up thing on toast with them as a lunch, or a part of a stir fry, as I have no imagination, and am not the biggest fan of BBs, but I have found I can grow them and I have a LARGE tub to use this week.

    Any ideas?

I had broad beans in my veg box for two weeks. I made a broad bean and pesto soup and broad bean pesto. Both were yummy. The home made pesto recipe would be especially good for you as I don't think a child could tell it was broad beans :) and you could then use some pasta and chicken, or prawns? If you go to www.abelandcole.co.uk, click on the recipe tag at the top of the page and scroll down to beans (broad) recipes you should hopefully find something that takes your fancy. Hope this helps.
