moving further afield is not really an option, my partner and I don't drive and neither does my family, so I have to take into account transport links to get to my work and to my family and vice versa. I would love this as I could get a house outside the city for less again.
On a plus note, a friend I worked with and went to school with lives round the corner from this house AND works for the local council, she is giving me a lowdown on it, but seems fairly positive about it.0 -

that house is acually really nice for the money, when we first got married we moved to a bad area, worst we had in the 3 years we lived there was next doors kids in our garden, the area had kept a rep from years ago that it will prob never lose however it's prefectly safe and quiet now and full of familys.
I would recommend you spend more time there, also speak to the neighbours or go to a local motehrs and toddler group and remeber these are the kids your child will grow up with and they learn from there parents so i'd be watching them rather than the kidsDEC GC £463.67/£450

im glad my internet cut out before i posted my last reply because it was too harsh, i would however get someone nice to property bee the property for you on here to see how long it has been on the market and at what previous prices ?
also make sure you get your own survey done on the property, maybe added expense but worth it in the long run if your really into this house
you know the area, you know the locals and you have friends and family nearby which is good, what are the public transport links like ?
we spent a year in clydebank and were lucky enough to sell in a week but some properties that were for sale around the same time are still for sale and alot less, see what a property bee turns up and get your solicitor to negotiate an even better price ?
to be brutally honest, it doesnt matter where you live right now, were in the west end and have had two attempted break ins in the past month alone, no matter how much i may slate clydebank, our property there never came into real danger the time we were there x0 -
I think OP is trying to talk herself into this purchase. If you buy in an area you think is a bit rough, the move will be a false ecoonomy - you will regret it. Always always go for worst house best street. we have made the same mistake in our house now and so wish we had not been blinkered. I still love the house but it's how others view it that really matters as we want to move again and pur house will not command the best price because of where it is. In this currrent climate that is particularly true and I wish we had bought a house in need of work in a better area.
Also, the house in picture is very easily break-in-able with the garden exposed to the front like that. A concern i would have, though if you have the money to side extend immediately, this would negate that issue.0 -

personally, i would not move to a dodgy area with children sorry. maybe you could learn to drive and open up your search area,0 -

It has been up for just under a year, and was priced at £78k, now dropped to OO £69k. We are going to obviously try and wrangle the price down if we put in an offer.
I live in what I would class as a really bad area (Yoker) but have never encountered any issues, but know people who stay in £750k houses in the west end and have horrible neighbours. An area is what you make of it in all honesty0 -

Only works for England and Wales, but thanks. With regards to learning to drive that only solves part of my problem, i.e. getting to work, town etc but my family don't drive so would severely restrict their chances to come over and spend time with us.0 -
I think you're doing the right thing in visiting a few times, and listening to your friend who lives nearby. I wouldn't be that bothered about what people's perceptions are of the area and agree with your comments about the West End as I had neighbours from hell when I lived there, and was burgled - never had any problems in the cheaper South Side where I now live. You'll know yourself if it is for you or not - best of luck.0
