Before you jump it"s a extra large pavement with a cycle lane in it
Anyway if he"s a half decent cyclist and damage costing less than £100 I hope that he would do the right thing and pay up!
I've been very factual in this thread so to avoid the whole car versus bicycle tangent which distracts from my original question. As it happens I cycle too and only bothered to learn to drive as I need to for my job. I was parked perfectly legally in the road, the cyclist actually veered completely off the road he was following and flew into my car at high speed. It appears he took the bend too fast as he was not cycling to the conditions.Saving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j0 -

sb thanks very much for your help. What exactly is the name of the part I'm looking for, is it a lens? Couldn't find the ones you did on ebay.
McKneff, yes I went through my insurance company for the first incident. It was pretty cut and dried as the driver came out of a side road straight into me. They admitted liability before I'd even got back to my office. The car was fixed in a bodyshop who gave me a courtsey car that I didn't have to pay out and reclaim for. The money has already been claimed from the other side. On doing test quotes having one non fault claim where the money's been reclaimed already doesn't seem to be an issue on my premiums.
It would definitely not be worth making a claim as I've been driving less than two years so my insurance would go through the roof. I do have motor legal protection on my insurance. Does anyone know whether using this counts as a claim? I suppose I'll have to inform my insurance company once the police have been in touch tonight and check this at the same time. I'm with direct line. Small claims seems the way to go. And I think he has got money just fancies spending it on other things!0 -
Yes sorry for distracting from the thread
couldnt help myself was only thinking it was bad luck that he didnt hit a car that deserved to be hit!:D

Yes thanks. I did find that one but was thinking that just the lens would need replacing as the coloured light parts underneath is pretty much ok. It seems like its easiest to replace the whole thing? Is it difficult to fit? It is so tempting to get that one and get the bodyshop to put it on but I don't want to invalidate my warranty. The dealership seem to farm most of their bodywork out to the bodyshop which is an unrelated business but over the road from them, but they are insistent on genuine partsSaving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j0 -
it will be blown moulded so you need all the light
a local independant small garage the type that keep englands lights glowing should be able to fix it cheaply as it seems its only held in with 2 tight screws:)

Shouldn't do, because you're not making a claim off your insurance, you're using your legal cover to pursue the cyclist. Though it might be easier to just write to him then small claims court if he doesn't co operate.
Youre right, it shouldnt do but in a lot of cases with insurance companies, they do put the next years premiums up, for the simple reason that you are more of a risk than you were before, even if you werent in the car:eek:
So many posters come on here saying exactly that, its not fair but it happens a lot.
Mine doesnt, i had a no fault claim with the coop. No rise in premium, I believe Rias dont either.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Oh that makes sense. Thanks for your help. I'll either go with the bodyshop that did the work before or my friend's brother garage. Seems like the small claims may be the way to goSaving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j0 -
Are you not duty bound to inform your insuance any way?
If he's got no cash how you gonna make him give you something he ain't got?
He's got a bicycle. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
