    Afternoon all :hello:

    b1adcc00-ee57-43ae-9855-bfb90753662c.jpg

Please can you to highlight your number of NSDs in a colour and in bold and preferrably LARGE so that I can see them easily when I whizz through the posts - any colour will do, though I am personally partial to PURPLE:D

Some helpful suggestions and ideas to follow below from our sponsor and godmother, BigMummaF :A
    NO SPEND CHALLENGE.

    1. Have a good, long think about what YOU want to include in your Spend & Excluded categories.
Some of us count everything from Direct Debits & school expenses, while others do not include things like essential Bills or emergency medical costs. If you plan what is or is not a Spend for you now, it will help you decide on a realistic Target.
    2. It is NOT a race!
We all have very different demands on our time & bank balance, so please do not think you have to buy everything on 1st January & make it last till 31st December! A few of us have been following this Challenge for a long...long...LONG time so have developed plans & ploys to help us along the way wink2.gif
    3. Most important of all, WE..DO..NOT..FAIL!
Sometimes we can't quite reach our Target, but that is fine :) Everyone knows how Life will try to trip us up, & that is when you will find us here to help you back on to your feet.

OK, an idea of how some of us do things.
    1. What you will or will not include as a 'Spend'.
Some people are doing other Challenges too, & don't include the money spent on those for this one.
Some will try to shop for other bits on the days their direct debits etc go out of their bank accounts; they're the real hard core of the bunch sport-smiley-003.gif & have been l-o-n-g time Nsders so don't panic :p
Some won't count those annoying last minute demands from school & collections as you can't plan for them in advance, likewise emergency prescriptions or visits to the vet :(
Personally speaking & providing I don't buy anything else, I don't count parking for hospital appointments.(..but then I usually do my shopping because I'm already out )
General thoughts on €bay sales is the buyer has paid P&P so no cost to you :D
    2. It takes Time to reach mega-numbers!
The First suggestion is the first, because a bit of planning will work wonders on your road to your Target. Have a look at Solvent's (aka Spoon:rotfl:) first posts each month for a hefty list of other Threads that may be of help. For example, there's a few giving ideas for packed lunches so you can avoid standing in the queue at the bakers for 45mins of your lunch hour! A good incentive to tweak your healthy eating & the pounds you save will show in your bank balance AND your waistline action-smiley-076.gif
It helps to have various 'money pots' for the different costs that happen like Scouts, dinner money, yoga, window cleaner etc etc. The idea is you "spend" all that money in one hit by....
let's say **putting the week's bus fares into the pretty coffee jar, Jo's tumble tots SIZE=2]Weds mornings[/SIZE in the cracked teapot & Ben's £1 coin for the gym locker SIZE=2]Friday lunch[/SIZE in the pocket of the changing bag, on Tuesdays every week when you've got some change from doing the food shop, so an already spendy day. At least four 'spending days' condensed into one ;) (**mine's jam jars for windows, milkman & a bit towards the bills!)
    3. Any day the money stays in your pocket is a bonus!
If you look at it as a day you beat the system, you can't help but :j so don't fret it--ENJOY! If nothing else in here, we do manage find something to make us smile :D

We have virtual outings to wonderful places that never cost us a bean :rotfl:New York, Edinburgh & Brighton have been a couple & Spoon usually pilots the Tardis but you can use your own transport; my personal favourite has been a sit-on lawn mower borrowed from the cricket club :D The only thing to be aware of is Hubert the donkey who is partial to anything remotely edible but is not yet house-trained :o

    And Remember;
there are no silly questions, so don't be afraid to ask us anything!

    Hi All
I'm a bit cr*p at this. I just spend, spend, spend....Fluffypinkbabe and chrisco, I salute you for your huge NSD numbers. I've only managed two so far. I might have a third depending on the answer to the following question.
Do people count the day they spend money on a debit card a spend day or the day it comes out of your account?

I count it as the day I use the card, I have had it take over a week to leave my account so not easy to track otherwise :D

Number 13 for me! Unlucky for some...

Payday tomorrow so a spendy day... I have to give my sister £500 which is my share towards a surprise 60th birthday party for my mum. We've been saying we would do for the past 9 years so I HAVE to contribute towards it.

So sign me up for next month too LOL
  • No nsd for me today... have had to buy a bed as my friend wants hers back (sorry if i've already mentioned this) so slightly grrr right now!! Have upgraded to a kingsize so just hope it fits... hopefully MrS will stay more often then as we will have more space (he is 6'5!).

Wouldn't it be a good idea would-be to see if you can avoid buying any new apps for a whole month?? Maybe you can reward yourself with one app at the end of a month if you manage it. :). Can you plan to do things other than spend money perhaps?

I find staying away from the computer and shops is a good way of saving money, I am gradually getting better at it slowly but surely.

I have an old blackberry (no apps, no email access), which I use as a diary and a phone and that's all. Costs me £15 a month in total (300 mins calls & 600 texts per month) and is all I need. I have thought about a £10 deal and might look into it soon.

I find going onto the computer helps me lose many hours in the day and have decided to cut down on my online-time. I have lots of things I need to do, but I never get done as I spend too long on the 'puter...tonight is a case in point, so I am signing off now...night night!! xx
    *Thinking about above*
I live by my computer, and Smartphone.
My Computer enables me to do stuff my TV and Radio NEVER could.
I enjoy access to for example French Language Stations, this has the advantage of confusing schizophrenic psychic vibes and as a form of protection as well as providing ad free or low/no understanding of ads hence protection from the Ad Menace, whilst being a woman of genuine taste qaulity and desire which I demonstrate in my purchasing decisions.
I shop, socialise, do Projects online. My life is NOT based locally though there are important local considerations but online where my true life is. I meet and make friends, socialise with family, deal with bank etc all online. My computer/s PC, laptop and smartphone praise God are essentials not luxuries, anyone who thinks they are is not living in the 21st Century or understanding my life.
There are extreme local pressures through mentally ill individuals around me hence I cannot afford a too local focus beyond hopefully happy and helpful times with the above. Otherwise I am hiding away for dear life, with my Computers and conducting my life as per normal.
I naturally write on my computer. I would NOT unless it was for academic purposes seek to write on lined pads because typing onto software is so much more convenient. I don't need to print unless I have too I try to rely on Online sources for managing life rather than acculmuate too many magazines (awful I buy very few but very well) and build up clutter in my flat which is far too small and imposes considerable space pressures on storage-hence computers as a means of managing life.
So I think a degree of fasting is a good idea. Not being so on is valuable but I have a friend in Scotland probably 500 miles away and for his sake would rather be connected 24/7 so I can monitor siltation as drugs and alcohol are involved. So if I wasn't online on Laptop, I would be on Iphone and visa versa. I might be able to arrange more time off I could divert to reading then record results online on Goodreads as I plan to read 70 books this year perhaps more, and qaulity is everything. again to counter the intellectual assault on the poor that limits the poor to a limited franchise . I could fast from apps buying so long as real needs are met because owning my Iphone (sin sin!!! yipeee!) has helped me do what Adult education never let me do. Do endless sums with automatic correction generating 000's of sums thus solving a long term problem. I never expected this when I was given this for a Birthday pressie but I would buy one anyway if I needed too. I do this shamelessly as I believe Smartphones are the way forward except when a cheap talk and text can come to the rescue. GPS will help me in Scotland on the Highlands not a talk and texter which seems the more virtouous purchase as god forbid if you are a daily mail reader the poor must not own Iphones!!! shock horror!! (yet the rich evade taxes without incurring political ire and disgrace the poor gets it as usual). I do not apologise for my choice of phone.
A cheap talk and texter or even 2 could mean Advertisers are diverted to inferior phone and Iphone3gS is set apart for A List Black Book activities.
In addition me meeting my real needs from putting sheets onto kingsize overs to other needs means real needs being met is very important to me. Living here in poverty land with nice cute alcoholism, (very depressing) pressures from Scotland, nice schizophrenia etc means yours truly is diving into the civilised refuges. They being dressing nicely, being clean( not part of great unwashed ugh) self control element even if potentially I could tilt into alcoholism and drug addicion, reading books above and beyond that which is prescribed for us, Taking education (university) that is denied us. Nice AGEISM DISABLISM MENTALISM, cosy Shock Doctrine, Corporate denials of rights. Meeting my needs and desires in an offensive way if neccesary is vital for my survival. ( I dont subscribe to doctrine of punishing and regulating the poor Frances Fox Piven but many niave unquestioning members of the public do bring on the fairy job mother!!) and lifestyle reflects this.
(Poverty is too frightening to *do* any other way as I refuse to buy the crap that is dished out to the low income individuals because they are poor).
I live in the marginalised persecuted misunderstood and misrepresented Underclass but I refuse to let myself be treated as such. Having nothing is an experiment to see how much I can squeeze out of my difficult circumstances which are difficult in both political and philosophical and theoretical terms in terms of providing an alternative philosophies, theories, practice to the corporate modes of oppression.

Do people count the day they spend money on a debit card a spend day or the day it comes out of your account?

I count the day I use the card as the spend day. If I were to count the day it went out of my account it would be much harder to work out how many NSDs I had a chance of getting (I also count D/debits as a spend, so try and tie in all other shopping with those).
