Need advice on PCN issued by UK Parking Patrol Office - Manchester

Hi, saw this and thought I would reply as I also parked on that road last night and got a ticket!! annoying thing is though - I was attending a concert and the carpark was being advertised as 'concert parking' and where I parked was where the Car Park Marshall guided me to (as the carpark was full), and i paid him to park there! (he gave me no evidence of payment so probs my fault).
The people who parked beside me all got tickets, but those in the car park didn't! looking at the photos posted on the thread it does show signs that its a private road, but we were being invited to park there! plus I didn't think to question the parking Marshall?? I was fuming to find the ticket, so was curious to find if anything had come out of the ticket you got BOdge?
Any advice?? I've seen a lot of 'ignore ignore ignore' but it is hard to!! ignore even if there is private road signs?? Though again, it was being advertised as concert parking!!0 -

What has the Private road sign got to do with it? The only REAL tickets come from the Police, the Council or TransportforLondon (and very rarely, a Train Operator). All the others are FAKE, SCAM PCNs - easy to spot as they are from private companies and use the heading 'Parking Charge' instead of the real 'Penalty Charge'. They hope you are a mug who doesn't know the difference between a real fine and a fake one.
Please read the sticky threads, 'PPC letters, what to expect' and 'welcome, please read before posting':

Once you have seen the standard letter-chain to ignore, and seen the Watchdog video, you will understand that you were nearly mugged by that scammer.
Do not even THINK about paying nor responding to any scary letters (in the absence of sealed Court papers which will NEVER come). Read up on it.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

PRIVATE PARKING TICKETS - DON'T PAY!
IT IS NOT A FINE! YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING ILLEGAL!
This is an information page for the thousands of people who receive "tickets" from private companies in the UK ever day at supermarkets, retail parks, and in any other privately-owned carpark.
We are NOT encouraging anybody to openly flout parking restrictions on private land, or to refuse to pay reasonable charges for parking. Landowners have a right to make reasonable charges for the use of their land.
For advice specific to your case, you should visit the forums at http://forums.pepipoo.com or http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/parking-traffic-offences.

1. What you should know about these companies
It is important to remember that private parking companies (or PPCs as they are often called) have NO OFFICIAL POWERS - that's right, none at all! They give out their "tickets" on the basis that you have seen the signs in their car park and that you have therefore agreed to a contract obliging you to pay a certain sum of money.
2. What happens to people who don't pay?
In 99.9% of cases, absolutely NOTHING! The company pays the DVLA £2.50 to get your address, and then sends lots of threatening letters. In the main, these letters can be safely IGNORED. The only way the company can actually force you to pay is by taking you to the small claims court, which costs them even more money. And they are by no means guaranteed to win! And they practically never do.
The two main reasons for this (among others) are the following:
- Only the person DRIVING the car could ever have agreed to any such parking contract. The company can only get the Registered Keeper's address from the DVLA: you don't have to tell them who was driving.
-Many of these charges are so extortionately high that they constitute a penalty, which is unenforceable in a consumer contract.
3. Can they affect my credit rating?
NO! The only way your credit rating could be affected by ignoring private parking companies is if you were taken to court, lost, and then still refused to pay. But they will not take you to court.
IN SHORT
The vast majority of the time, you can safely IGNORE tickets from private parking companies, they are not official fines.
The vast majority of the time, you can safely IGNORE the threatening letters, including those from debt collection agencies.
You DO NOT have to pay a penny of your hard-earned money to these companies. Remember that the chances of being taken to court are very slim indeed.
DO NOT IGNORE COURT PAPERS!
If you receive real court papers from a private parking company (very rare) then you should go to http://forums.pepipoo.com or http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/parking-traffic-offences for help defending the claim. Do not be afraid to sign up and ask questions regarding any paperwork you are not sure about.
Don’t believe the above? Watch a solicitor on Watchdog advising you what to do with the scam invoices.

THEY ARE NOT FINES
Only the Police, Courts or Council’s can fine you. NOT a private company, please remember that.0 -
Elmira way is a private road with signs saying so, i also rang the council who conformed this. I also got a ticket saying parking charge also a follow up letter.
Shall i ignore? even thou it is signposted private road?0 -
What difference do you think a private road sign makes? None!
If you had read the sticky threads (top info threads on any forum board) instead of bumping a very old thread you would have seen the letters to expect and found the youtube clip of a solicitor on Watchdog showing people exactly what to do with a fake PCN (whatever the circs). You need to read the stickies now to understand the scam.
As with any forum, when you find a random old thread, don't post on it as you are less likely to get replies. Instead, go back a step, get off this thread and onto the main forum board it sits on, to see current threads & info.
Click on the link mentioned in my signature, which as ever with a forum, is in blue above this thread. Look for the > chain of links at the top of the page and click the one before the name of the thread. In this case you want to go back a step and look at the threads listed under 'Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking'.
Happy reading and forget about your worries over what is basically a scam fake PCN.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I also got a ticket on this rd and have been advised not to pay it so i wont.
The signs are placed on the hotel fence and a lampost eitherside of the entrance to the hotel this is missleading as people think they are reffering to the hotel car park .scam0 -
biggsboy,, you have not recieved a ,,ticket,,,what you have recieved is a ,,,,parking charge notice=unenforceable invoice not backed by law in any way shape or form,,,,,,a REAL ticket is called = penalty charge notice,,usually issued by police, local council, traffic warden,,,,,so ignore this and any related junk/threat o grams that come through your door whether it be from company or debt collectors (no powers) phoney solicitors stating will go to court,, no chance as they know they will lose hands down.do not contact or reply to anything.well said for stating ,,i wont pay,,dont its a scam.0

Guys/Gals, I need some advice on a Parking Charge Notice issued by UK Parking Patrol Office. On Saturday my car was left on Elmira Way, a side road next to the Ramada Hotel, Manchester. It was left by the kerb on the mini-roundabout near to the hotel car park entrance. There were no double yellows and the car was not causing an obstruction/parked dangerously. When I returned to the car I found a charge notice. Upon further inpsection there were a number of warning signs erected around the roundabout but they all seemed to cover various entrances to private residential parking areas. I will be seeking advice from my local citizens advice but I wanted the thoughts of somebody on here as many seem to know their stuff. General advice seems to be ignore it. What I cannot understand is most of the advice refers to cars being parked on private land/car parks. The car was left on a public road - how can they erect signs saying private land and then issue a ticket? Fair enough if it was the council/police but surely a private company cannot enforce what appears a public road???? Thanks.
Hi I must have parked in exactly the same spot and got the same result - a ticket posted on the car at 23.33!!!
What was your experience? Did you pay, did they chase you? It's just so annoying:mad:0
