    There must be as many TL myths as there are Ryanair.

    You CANNOT book a room without ticking the box that says "you accept the T&C".

    Therefore you must have seen their "relocation policy" in their T&C.

    What happens if it becomes necessary for my reservation to be relocated?

    On rare occasions, it may become necessary for us to relocate you and find you suitable alternative accommodation in the local area or offer to refund the room. In this instance, unless the reason for needing to relocate you is beyond our reasonable control, we will offer you compensation for the inconvenience.


    I stay at TL up and down the country most weeks of the year, arriving at all hours and have NEVER been relocated or had any other problems.

    You may make a booking on someone else's behalf. You are responsible for ensuring that any customer in your booking complies with these terms as if that customer had made the booking.


    There is no truth either that they cancel "saver rooms" first.

    It is very common in the hotel industry, due to late cancellations - if hotels don't overbook, then they don't fill, especially as a lot of hotels now have a 6pm release, especially midweek business travellers. In an ideal world, the amount they overbook by will equal or be less than the number of cancellations and no one will get outbooked


    In fact it is possible to overbook by 40-50 rooms a week or two out of arrival date in larger hotels and still not have to inconvenience anyone as the number of late cancellations will exceed that. Although it is business travellers that cancel short notice more so than the leisure customers, so no hotel/airline would be daft enough to do that on a weekend.

    I tend to book PI, not TL when I require budget accommodation, but I would always try and arrange my travel to get there early rather than late, as you have a better chance of not being the one outbooked...... This is because I recall a time when my colleague rang a TL where we were staying at about 6pm, and again at midnight and when he got there at 2am - no room - so it has stuck with me!!

    If your guests get there early, they might be able to get an early check-in, and that way they don't need to worry over it - although this isnt always possible on saturdays in summer, due to the numbers of wedding guests in the area who try for the same thing..

    Sounds like the OP created a disaster that only lasted 21 minutes from 1st post to 2nd and probably didn`t exist anyway.

    I had a friend that was "out-booked" but was well compensated with a better hotel, travelling expenses, and a free stay for the future.

    Airlines do exactly the same thing by over booking and then offer good incentives to "take the next flight".
    Once at O`Hare in Chicago, it was overnight in a top hotel with meals,free transport to and from the airport and a free flight anywhere with American Airways.

    Yes, it can often work out better. Especially in the premium hotel market, in busy cities etc. Normally if you can be a bit flexible you can do quite nicely out of the deal, better hotel or room upgrade, bottle of wine, dinner etc if you can change your dates prior to arrival. Most people handling this in hotels are very grateful to people who are understanding and can switch plans if the hotel has got itself into a bind

    The only thing with the budget accommodation is they have a very strict business model, and tighter rules. but there are also more of them, so it can be relatively easy for them to find a room elsewhere

    wouldn't stay at a TL now if you paid ME........

    horrible experience. And I won't fly Easyjet/Ryanair either

    I only get shafted once.:mad:

    Rubbish - airlines like BA deliberately overbook as they know there won't be no-shows but the low costs don't as they'll keep your money regardless of if you turn up or not.
