Travelodge have let our room to someone else!!

22.33. Sat 28th May.

Hello all,
My son is in Leeds for the day and has booked a room at Bradford Travelodge. He can't get there before about 11.30 so we phoned them up to let them know he would be late. They told us they have cancelled his room because they are already full. He made his booking over 3 weeks ago but the receptionist said they cancelled my sons because he had only paid £19 and they get cancelled first.
We are having trouble getting hold of him to let him know so he is likely going to turn up there.
Where does he stand on this? He is about 95 miles from home.

Cheers,
Ian.

    Ah the usual Travelodge overbooking.

They will tell him when he arrives that there's no room. If the receptionist can be 'arrised he/she should arrange a taxi to the nearest Travelodge with room. If not he may have to pay himself and claim back. I think it's in Travelodges T&C's and why I will never stay at a Travelodge again.

Problem over. He turned up 5 minutes ago and they had 3 rooms left and he got one. If we had been able to get hold of him he would have trailed all the way home. What the hell are they playing at?
I had heard about this before but have never experienced it despite staying at Travelodges 5 or 6 times a year. Might have to be more careful in future.

No. With decent companies the room is yours whether you show up or not. Travelodge are special. The only requirement if you want to cancel on a flexible rate is to do so by around 1pm on the day of your stay.

Surely not. Sometimes when we travel we go after work and haven't even left home by 6.00.

The nearest travelodges are in Leeds and Halifax about six miles away. Presumably, if there was room in one of them he would have been sent there.

They use the same model as Easyjet in the way that they overbook rooms under the assumption that there will always be people that don't show up! Always turn up early for these things!

This is so wrong as it is not always possible to turn up early to avoid this as I may be traveling to an area and not need the room till late in the evening ,I think as long as i phone ahead my booking should be honored .I will never stay at travel lodge knowing this .

This has got me worried now as I've booked rooms for some of our family coming up for my wedding in October, and I know several of our friends are also planning to book if they haven't already done so. I've booked 4 rooms on saver rates which seem to be the ones they can ditch. I also had a problem booking the first pair as it didn't ask me for guest name so both rooms are booked to me - on their T&C it says it has to be name of guest staying there. I did go in the place after that happened and they seemed OK about it so hope that's sorted. Hopefully my one isn't the sort to get booked up - our town is pretty dead, apart from one weekend in June so fingers crossed there'll be no overbooking problems. But it's made me think twice about using them now
