Charging A Car Battery?
Options
Hey.
Is there any complications in charging a car battery even if its not dead? I was given a AC wall charger where you connect it to a socket and clip on either end to a car battery to charge it and was wondering if its O.K to do this on a working battery?
I was hoping to take mine off and leave it over night to give it a full nights charge but a friend said it could be dangerous and mentioned "jump starting" and I pointed out to him that I'm not using jump leads from another car...
So just to clear this up... Can I or can I not use a AC wall charger to charge a semi-OK car battery? (instead of instant, it takes that one, sometimes two seconds to crank the car, and I want to restore its power.)
Thanks!

I am no mechanic...(although was married to one - does that count?). I suspect that your starting problems (if you can call the that) are not related to your battery. The battery is giving sufficient power to turn the engine over. I would guess that even if your battery were fully charged that the engine would still turn over a few times before starting. How do you know your battery is not fully charged incidentally?
If you start your car and take it on a reasonable run the battery will be fully charged on returning home assuming all else is working as it should (alternator etc....)0 -

unfortunately its not so clear cut anymore as it depends on make model and battery fitted
lets assume you have a 1967 viva then its an excellent idea
then lets consider its a ford focus 2004 petrol and the idea is not so good
basically batteries arent what they were, most are now sealed for life and some even contain the humous from Area 51 us of A0 -
PMSL - So I am not the only one that didn't 'get' the question??0

I don't even bother taking my battery off the car to charge it.0

seems clear to me
maybe yers all work in central govt and need powerpoint help?:D0 -
Aaahhhh just reread the OP - So the engine is not turning over a couple of times before starting, it is taking a couple of seconds to turn over??
Makes marginally more sense - I guess....LOL0 -
Yes, charge your battery. I've done this dozens to hundreds of times over the years. My motorcycles usually have a trickle charger on them when they are in the garage.
However, if your battery won't hold a charge it may be on the way out. If it is over 5 years old that is likely.
If your car won't start easily with a fully charged battery, it may need a tuneup.0 -

i strongly advise against this if you have an old type battery charger as they only have basically first world war bits in them and so the output is not smooth in electricery talk and can well damage components on your car
i learnt this 8 years ago when i blew an ecu on a punto0
