Hi, my OH has just done an official microsoft update for his xbox and it's completely fried his console! He's looked on their official forum and several other people have had the same issue, but when he phoned their helpline, they said they can't do anything - he's got to pay £120 for a repair or buy a new one:eek: He spent an hour going round and round in circles with the 'customer service' guy on the phone but to no avail. The machine was working fine before but they've just turned around and said 'tough luck'. He argued that the update was essential to keep using the xbox live service he's paid for but they won't budge. He's spent an absolute fortune on microsoft products over the years so it's just so sickening to be treated so unfairly... they won't give him a thing

sounds like there may have been some dodgy stuff on it then, both my kid's consoles have been updated in the last few days without any bother. mickeysot have fuseable (i.e. console-frying) links in the console so they can blow it remotely if they suspect any hacked contet and the like. Or, your OH may have been one of the unlucky ones who got caught in the fall-out......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
The suggestion was that it was because its an older model and/or it might have conflicted with a previous update. He's very protective of his consoles so it's definately not been hacked. I think you're right, it's prob just bad luck for him...and good luck for ms as he's gone out and bought a brand new one....0

Micro$haft are prone to not admitting to issues they cause. It is frankly appalling that they will not admit fault. I have had to buy a new one before after a red ring of death. I'm now on my fourth Xbox!! I agree that it is most likely a previous update which has caused the new one to fail - Do you know what model of box he had?0

I don't know which model it is, it's prob 3/4 years old though. He gave it all the 'I'm never buying an xbox again, I'll stick with my ps3 etc' rant to the guy on the phone but as soon as he hung up he went straight to buy a new one lol. He's so weak! I told him that if everyone made a stand on these things, the big corporations would have to listen but he didn't want to be the one to start the revolution :rotfl:0

On the issue of getting your xbox back up working again i would reccomend using places like consoledoctor.co.uk.Seem Microsoft have copied Sony's policy problems when you ring, They will ask you to send the console in to examine and charge you the price what is quoted, In reality what they do is charge you to look at it and send you a refurbishment replacemnt Xbox. Alot of gaming forums are talking about this at the moment online. But that console doctor only charges 30 quid or so. and pick it up by courier, When my old ps3 got hit with the red light of death and my xbox old one got that also before i upgraded to the slim i sent them in to the console doctor and a week later they was as good as new.
They offer also a trade in for the new version also on the site, throught i mention that as it is a good option to consider."MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
you can get a no fuss , 3 year warranty for next to nothing at GAME .
they will even replace RROD if it happens .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
