Is Santander customer service improving ?

In terms of gifts, about 7 years ago now I had various problems with Abbey (who were just becoming Santander about then). They sent me some flowers - and mis-spelt my name on the apology card.
All our accounts were moved to other institutions shortly after that (which was the last in a long line of complaints). Given everything I've read on here since then, I'm glad we moved when we did!0 -
I tried to start using a Santander account I already had open as my main current account. I went to the branch to ask for a new card and was advised it would take 10 working days.
Two weeks later nothing so returned to the branch who advised me it had been refused as the account hadn't been used for 2 years despite me advising them I was to start paying in my wages each month.
They re-ordered the card on appeal and 14 days later.....you guessed it, still nothing. I've left 3 messages to call me with the branch, none of which have been returned. The customer services line is completely unable to help and keep referring me to the branch.
Absolutely, utterly frustrating, incompetent and useless. I think I'll switch to First Direct using their easy switching service unless anybody has a better idea? Avoid Santander like the plague!0 -
Santander strikes again !! Got a letter in the post today saying the sent my statements to the wrong person in December 2010, this is the first i'm hearing about it now.0

Is Santander improving - DEFINATELY NOT
I phoned just after 7:00 this morning, tied to use my customer ID number & pin - not recognized, then put in my card number - not recognized! This has been going on for months. Anyway, finally got to talk to someone and ask a very simple question:
What is your address as I want to transfer my ISA
Reply: I don't have the address, go into a branch.
My response: What do you mean you don't have the address you work for Santander you should have that information.
Reply: You will have to go into a branch and ask them, I don't have that information
My response: You are bloody joking - yes I did use the word bloody, I was bloody annoyed.
Reply: Nothing, the person hung up!
Anyway, phoned back and spoke to someone else - still took me ages because my numbers are not recognised. This person was helpful - very helpful as she gave me the address. I then asked if I need to get the address for another dept how do I find it on the internet.
I spent 10 minutes following instructions and trying to convince the assistant that I was not seeing the same pages as she was. My suggestion to her was when you go home look on the Santander website.
I am in the process of transferring my accounts. I could keep you here for several hours listing my complaints on the way I have been treated and the way my 81 year old mother has been treated.
I went into one of the branches in London the other day and the adviser advised me to transfer my ISA (and other accounts) because Santanders product was crap - now that's good customer service!
On the whole I believe the advertising: "Together we Are Santander"
Should say "With your money Santander will take over the world but you won't get any customer service"
I feel better for getting this off my chest!0 -

Called to complain this morning, was given an apology and £100 into my account.
At this rate i'll be able to give up my job and rely on my new Santander subsidy0 -
They phoned me in the week to offer me £100. I told they that they could poke their £100. It was an insult considering all the mess they have caused.0

Why didn't you take their £100 and then tell them to sod off. £100 is better in your pocket than theirs. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.:cool:0 -
I can’t wait to leave Santander as they are the most inefficient and disastrous bank I have ever dealt with. I have worked in the financial world and have been involved in my own personal banking with different banks for over 50 years.

Not my words but doesn't look like they are improving!0 -
expatasia, it is very rare you find a consumer money advice page without at least one Santander problem that can't be sorted until journalists intervene. Whatever their staff on here may say, they're still rubbish.0
