best deal for new phone PAYG ?
Comments

The nec e616v was the best and cheapest.
Video
Picture
Mp3
and capable of sony memory stick so you could add memory to do loads
eg watch dvd's , massive mp3 files.
The nec Does have drawbacks but you did say you wanted the best deal and this is it I f you can get one.
Personally I have an nec e616v but I slightly prefer a nokia 6230, but its £200 on paygo and not clamshell.0 -

My current favourite is:
TMobile Motorola E550 for £93.94 delivered from Woolworths.
It's not the cheapest but it's packed with features:
Clamshell
Bluetooth
Quad band
Video capture & playback
MP3 ringtones
The next cheapest for this phone is some £30 more expensive at £119.99 from The Link/Dixons/Currys and Amazon sell this for £149.99.
Although it is locked to TMobile, which isn't a particularly good value PAYG tariff, you can buy a cheap Virgin Mobile SIM (one of the better value PAYG tariffs) and it should work fine in this handset without the need to unlock it first.
Also, it's a much smaller handset than the E616V suggested previously.

....but the motorola does not have an expandable memory......which if you use any of these current mobiles to their best ability you'll soon find is essential.
Ie watching dvd's
or entire record collections on mp3
I personally would recommend a nokia 6230 before an i-pod and the nec is nearly as good but as you said a bit large........but still ok0 -
My advice AVOID any new mobile without expandable memory you'll regret it if you don't.
Secondly go for a mobile with inexpensive memory expansion such as the nokia with the mmc/sd card........you amy already have a card from a digital camera.
i've got a 1gb mmc in my nokia and its loaded with 6 cd albums a dvd of autin powers several home video and pics and still loads of space.........and by the way you can make phone calls as well how wicked is that?
A 1gb mmc for £50 here

so what are good choices then apart from the nokia 6230?
How do you watch films on your phone then, what format do you have to put them into?0 -
It depends what your priorities are m8.
The 6230 is fairly cheap and takes a mmc card which is also cheap...get yourself a bit of s/w from the net for converting dvd's to .3gp files and your laughing. Gotta have a pc as well.
Dunno whats currently available amongst other mobiles but if and when you look youreslf then make sure the memory is expandable and prefrably a sd/mmc card all the other types are expenive anddont come at 1gb size.0 -
at my local asda for £49
Nowhere near as good as the motorola but half of the price0
