I have a laptop, an old one given to me for the kids to use, but the ex-owner cant remember the password on the front screen, so we cant get into the laptop to use it.
Is there any way around this?

or hirens boot cd will clear it0 -
Oh! Thanks! I will try clicking F8 to get in - can I then change the password or better still take off the password protection?
I dont know what a hirens cd is, but will try what looks like the easy solution first. Thanks!!*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

will work if admin is enabled and no password on it. and yes you will be able to clear password and setup new user accounts.
Hirens boot cd will need burnt on another machine then use it to boot password locked machine, then delete passwords or enable admin.0 -
this only does the passwords.....

Thanks stilltheone, i'll try that now.
Closed, I've no idea how to restore to factory settings, but that sounds a good idea once I'm in since it was someone else's lappy.*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

Update.... I've started in safe mode (the top option), it's started up windows and I'm stuck on a window titled ' log on to windows - computer misuse act 1990'
It's asking for a password, which we dont know.
Is there a way forward from here? Sorry if this is very basic - I've never tried anything like this before!*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***
