Is it fixed, and if so, which change fixed it?!!

Uninstall unwanted toolbars via Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, or disable them via IE Tools/Options.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

but you should certainly not be running IE7. IE 8 is the default browser for XP. - macman
I wouldn't get too hung up about this one, I still use IE7 on my XP desktop. If your security suite is up to the job, not going to IE8 is not essential, in fact I reverted back to 7 after finding 8 not as friendly.....
...still, Opera is the main browser on that pc anyway and IE isn't used that much these days......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Agreed, it's not crucial-but tends to indicate that other Windows Updates may be not be installed either? On the other hand, SP3 is showing as installed...No free lunch, and no free laptop0

No, it doesn't replace it. Just gives you another option. FireFox will work as normal.
I too prefer Opera.0 -

Sorted, thanks all.
Not oversure which one fixed it. Ithink having done all in step 2, and then knocking out the 2nd firewall, all was then well.
Understand now about 64bit, but am relatively happy now where I am. Quickly tried Opera, but I think that is going to take some getting used to. For instance, it would niot let me type into a particular field on a form, so may play with that later.
Cheers all.O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.
