in Techie Stuff
Just recently, I have found that Internet pages are taking forever to load. I have Virgin cable, and the speeds do not appear to have changed significantly.
Now, I found a thread a while ago (lost it now!) that gave a whole list of things that might affect the PC....router/firewalls/memory, all sorts of technical things. Being a non tech person, much of it loses me I am afraid.
One of the items was to check that there were not 2 firewalls running. There is an example, I have not a clue! I have over the years added various free software, and of course there could be built in stuff as well. What buttons do I have to press, if possible, to check what firewalls I have active? I have the free Sunbelt Kerio which I think is running, possibly Microsoft Security Essentials (??).
Going on from that, are there say five routines I could follow to check that I have not just glued things up? I have run CC cleaner to clean the Registry and the Cookies etc, so am happy with that.
Help please!, and thanks.

HOW TO SPEED UP A SLOW PC OR INFECTED PC. (a mini guide) - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums is the guide you want.
I would start with malwarebytes Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50 - FileHippo.com to rule out infection. Install and go to UPDATE tab, click CHECK FOR UPDATES. Run full scan, remove everything found and post log here.
Then install and run hijackthis (top button of the program) Download HijackThis 2.0.4 - FileHippo.com. Post log here.0 -
Thanks, I'll start work on this right away.O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

try it without rapport, kerio, and mse/defender.
Also if you don't need it running, uninstall the nokia and virgin media software!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
I'll leave the full HJT anaylsis to someone else, but you should certainly not be running IE7. IE 8 is the default browser for XP. Check your Windows Updates and update manually if needed.
You should not have more than one AV program, so get rid of either MSE or Avast.
And many consider Rapport to be dubious...and bin some of the toolbars.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
OK thanks.

If so, you need a 64bit OS to take advantage of any more than that.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
