noisy neighbour

i know many posts have been made about this before but i have one specific question i need to ask.

i wont bore you with details but after another night of fun out drinking and loud sex with another strange man to follow ive reached the end of my teather. her child is shipped off every weekend so she can rip round the place. i work long hours all week and often at weekends so i really need to sleep. i was up last night form half1 until2 then 4 until half5. we have tried talking to her and its got to the stage we are no longer on speaking terms due to this.

what i need to know is this. her house is in a normal residential development but is paid for by the council. she is a unemployed single mother. can the council do anything if i complain to them? im not sure i would do this yet but i cant live like this anymore. im not sure if tennants that get a housing benefit maybe have to live under certain terms and conditions maybe? any help would be greatly appreciated as my own weekends and relationship are suffering due to lack of sleep.
thanks.

Theres a website called neighbours from hell dot something or other. You should have a look over there. It boils down to a matter of opinion whether your neighbour is causing a noise disturbance. THere will be something in her lease about not inconveniencing other residents, but that doesnt mean the council will want to enforce it.

You arent clear in what the basis of your complaint is really. Noisy sex?

Yes, phone the council. It might only take a queit word from them to get it all sorted out.

  • Hi,

just do it back to her in the morning, when she has a bit of a hangover, bang the head board against the wall and make the sex noises, do it for a good while to make it realistic, oh, and remember the big finale, just think of the 1812 Overture. :rotfl:

  • You have to get some diary sheets from the local council and fill in everything you hear and times occurring.

The anti social behaviour unit attached to your local council will visit and try to solve this for you.

The police will only get involved if this person is deemed to be harrassing you in any way.

There is a charter out that says you are entitled to quiet enjoyment of your home and that goes for being able to sleep without being constantly woken up.
    Mediation is another option

As a fairly new member, I read this thinking, ooh, this is going to be an interesting post...
can the council do anything if i complain to them?
Yes, they can serve a noise abatement order. Read about Caroline and Steve Cartwright, who were convicted of breaching a noise abatement order given due to noisy lovemaking.

You could phone the police and say that you think someone is being killed as there is so much screaming going on.

thanks for the replies everyone. i spent yesterday morning loudly singing and hoovering loads in the bedroom. probably not the best thing to do but felt loads better! she must hve taken the hint and didnt come home last night so after a full nights sleep im feeling less stressed about it.

will be keeping the crimestoppers advice for later though! if it continues in this way wel have no option and will have to ring the concil but at least we know we can.
    thanks again.

You say her property is being paid for by the council? Do you know if she's in there waiting to be housed by your local authority or housing association? Sometimes people who are accepted as homeless are housed in private sector leases until they are housed from the waiting list. If this is the case, it may be worth speaking to the homeless team at your local council.

However, I'm not sure noisy sex is deemed as antisocial behaviour!
