unfortunately it#s another government rip off
£2.50 extra for paying by credit card for their charges
I went to a certain shop today named mak.o
paid by credit card , had to pay £1.00 extra , when I asked why ?
the answer was to cover their fees
So mak.o pay £1.00 in fees but the dvla have to pay £2.50 fees ???????
Why ??
RIP OFF GOVERNMENT AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
ROY47 i see you is from swansea see,i would see that £2.50 charge and assume it as keeping your city alive because it must be the main employer in toon;)
yes?
keep your head down while all around are losing theirs0 -

I noticed you don't mention the fact that Tesco won't charge you a bean for paying by CC.
So why could that be?
Could it possibly be because Makro and Tesco are a private company so can decide whether or not to absorbe the cost, charge a partial charge or the full charge on to the customer but DVLA are a govt body so have to pass on the full charge to give value to the taxpayer by minimising their costs?
Or didn't that simple fact occur to you?RIP OFF GOVERNMENT AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taking debit cards still costs money. Using Post Office services still costs money. They don't pass on these charges.0 -

A credit card transaction is charged as a percentage of the transaction value.
No idea how much the Post Office charge DVLA.
Why do they charge £2.50? Because they can... simple as that really.0 -
The £2.50 charged by dvla is dwarfed by the £26 admin fee charged by uefa for the uefa champs league final at wembley, so in retrospect the £2.50 is nothing0
-
2.50 doesn't seem unreasonable to cover the DVLA's costs in processing the transaction. Supermarkets usually have some text to the effect that 2.5% of the purchase amount is taken to cover processing costs, regardless of how payment is made (obviously handling cash has costs associated with it as well).
However, the OP seems to be asking if the 2.50 is classed as a payment charge or a tax - if it appears as part of the amount paid for the tax disc, it seems that it is being regarded as a tax. This may not be interesting from an individual point of view (does anyone care that much about 2.50?), but in terms of overall tax revenue, maybe it has an impact...?Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
The supermarket 2.5% processing charge has nothing to do with costs, it is merely a VAT fiddle. There is no VAT charged on these fees so that is .5% extra profit on all card transactions.
At least the £2.50 is up front, you cannot miss it unlike some web sellers.0 -
the charges are to discourage you from using credit cards because it gives you more rights if they rip you off .
In a money saving world I see charges as an insurance policy that if they start, like many companies do taking the proverbial you can charge back via the credit card .
The trouble is the British public are a cowardly lot these days that will stand for coal breaking over our heads and these big firms have worked that out, however they know that other big firms wont stand for it done to themselves, so they are very desperate to discourage you using that credit card.
For me it is worth every penny as it is an instant solution to the blah blah we are not listening attitude from these greedy corporations who work on the more fish ion the sea, but one thing they do take notice of is loosing the money.
That's what they fear.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

well this blithering idiot just wondered why dvla charge £2.50 for using a credit card and makro only charge £1.00 for the same service
yes tesco and many others charge
But last night we had a delicious Indian take away where the bill was £36.50
when I paid by credit card NOTHING was added to the bill when I paid by credit card !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the local take away can do it why can't the bl..dy government cover the fee ????????????????? They get enough of our money anyway !!!!
I don't mind paying £1.00 extra but £2.50 ?
RIP OFF BRITAIN0
