Two Retentions With Vodafone

My contract with Vodafone has expired, two phones on one contract. They have offered me a Blackberry Curve G 9300 with 300 Minutes, Unlimited Texts, 1.5mb download on a 24 Month Contract £20 less £5 discount

Have been told that the Blackberry is geared more towards the business man and those who use social media a lot. That counts me out in both of those. It has been suggested I should opt instead for one with the Android system.

I've done a quick check on Vodafone deals (using Which? mobile and came up with the following standard deals.

Desirre hd 300 Minutes, Unlimited Texts, 24 Month Contract £15
Galaxy s 300 Minutes, Unlimited Texts, 24 Month Contract £15
I'm assuming that if they were prepared to offer me 1.5mb on the Blackberry there would be no difficulty getting the same here.

The above packages suite me and sister down to the ground

The o2 shop were offering me a slightly more expensive package than above but included the free o2 calls and 10 land line numbers. Do Vodafone offer free calls if so I wonder if they would go for 5 land line numbers per phone, considering I'll be retaining two phones with them?

Those O2 deals are business tariffs. 1.5megabytes is a tiny amount of data, is that right?

Your best approach is to work out how you use your phone (minutes/texts/data/email etc). Eliminate any networks who don't offer coverage in your areas, don't offer the phone you need or the level of service. Then contact the remaining networks and ask for a quote.

Minor point but your contract hasn't expired, you've just passed the minimum term.

You can stay as you are on a rolling 30 day contract, if you wish and move to any other network on 30 days notice. Obviously Vodafone offer the new phone and contract to tie you in another 18/24 months.

I suspect the OP means 1.5Gb rather than 1.5Mb (but certainly worth checking! :D)

The deals in themselves aren't bad for a new customer, but a little more than I would expect for a retention, particularly where two phones are at risk.

If it were me I would try and push for them to leave every aspect of this offer as it is, but move on the length of the contract from 24 months down to 18 months.

The more I think about it the more I realize I’m been drawn into a buy the latest craze and that’s certainly not a good money saving idea!! One of the benefits of coming here.

OK I do need two phones but |I’ve realized I don’t need a smart phone – heck all my sister and I do is talk and text and I'm retired. The more I think about it the more I realize a sim only deal is the one for me and I’ve seen one on Vodafone that would suite.

Anyway I started to look for a reasonably decent sim only phone. Don't mind where I buy but would expect a discount from Vodafone if I buy there considering I’m renewing two phones.

Would not want to spend in excess of £70, yet they don't seem that easy to find! So I thought I'd come back and ask some more advice.

Yes I've checked out the likes of Amazon just to see what was available but the number of phones really make your head spin and it's hard to track down a decent basic phone.

    What am I looking for.
    Decent battery life
    Slide up
    Good size keys for txexting
    Decent screen size.
A decent camera - desirable but not a deal breaker
Music, or the radio, are not that important

So any of you guys out there bought standard type phones lately: make, model, what's your opinion, what to buy and what to avoid|?

Appreciate choice is subjective but a few testimonials and I could narrow the list down
