HSBC Deposit Error

Hi i am just reading your blog and curious to know how you got on? Did you get your money back?
This has happened to me and has been rectified eventually but not after a lot of worry and hassle. (i don't give up easily...too many companies rob us blind taking our money without the banks doing it too).
Recently my neice waited in line in Halifax branch in Clapham high st, to deposit £90 to my account, got to the cashier after queuing for 20mins, who said she was having a bad day and told her to go use the deposit box and wouldn't take money over the counter (where she writes amount on envelope so is open to abuse of course) She had a friend and they were laughing as it was a scottish £10 note and joking it wouldnt be accepted. My account was only credited with £80! I called the bank and now have to jump through hoops to get it checked out. It is only £10 however i will pursue it as somewhere someone is on the take and unless we do report these discrepancies banks will not be able to take action against the culprits.
we'll see what happens ...0 -
I am a little confused by all this because I haven't been to any HSBC branch whereby they still use the old type machines? Every branch I have been to (although not everywhere in the country) has an electronic one whereby you put your card in, you put your money in and you confirm the amount deposited....
There are plenty of those machines still in existence... you must just be visiting the nice, refurbished branches!I am employed as a manager in a financial services institution. My views are entirely my own.0 -
panicing now. i used one of these machines today at hsbc i don't like them but every time i visit the counter to pay in money they always refer me to these machines. i got a call from my branch asking them to call me back at 4.45 called back at 5 but they were shut. the lady who left the message isn't in till Monday and i am now frantic. call centre no help at all so i have to sweat for 48 hours. if its disappeared its no Christmas for me. surely their cctv will show my paying the money in?0

sorry meant me to call them back0

Your deposit slip will confirm you paid money in and the amount you said you paid in. CCTV footage will only show you at the machine.0

yeah guessed that but at least it shows something. if the envelope are checked by two people i can't understand what's happening. i know for certain the amount of money i put in0

This is why I never use those machines, no matter how many times the little queue prodder person tries to get me out of the queue at the desks.
Life's complicated enough without having to chase stuff that's gone missing from envelopes and crap like that.0
