My sister went over drawn by £12 with Smile for about 2 hours and they cancelled her direct debits and charged her £100 in fees. I think you got off lightly with their standard (although ever so slightly partonising!) letter.
If you don't like the way they treat you, vote with your feet and go somewhere that treats you better.0 -
Because of the way credit/debit card authorisation works, a card is a privilege. If abused, the account holder can end up above agreed limits/overdraft/overdrawn due to the nature of the system and the implicit trust given to the user.
They way I see it, they are warning you in simple terms that if you continue to abuse your account, your card will be replaced with a cashcard which will not allow you to get in this situation – i.e. it will automatically refuse a withdrawal if funds are not sufficient. I don’t see what the problem with that is. It could be said that the bank is behaving responsibly, especially if you have a history of financial mismanagement.
If you don’t want to be ‘told off’, operate your account within agreed limits.0 -
Hi my bank smile has just announced to me that when my credit card expires they will not be sending another one due to the fact I accidentally missed one months payment of £35. My credit card limit is £1800 and the balance is owing £233.
My current account is £678 overdrawn - limit is £900 and earlier in year I claimed back £600 charges. I am also claiming a further £150 from them which has been halted due to the test case. My wage goes in at end of month then £700 is transferred out to my alliance and leicester account for bills.
I have a savings account of £500 and now am thinking of transferring my wage into the other account directly from my employer and closing all my accounts with smile. will my charge claim still be honoured depending on the test case outcome. What should I do close them all?
I am tempted to keep the overdraft and just pay off £50 a month to pay it off from my all and leic account. Help!Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -

You can still claim from closed accounts, so this shouldn't be a problem if you decide to follow this course of action.0 -
Be warned that if you divert your salary elsewhere, smile may decide to call in your overdraft facility, I would suggest checking the T&C's of your account to see if a condition of your overdraft is that your salary is paid in there.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

I was moving over to smile from Lloyds but the with a claim for bank charges didnt want to that while the claim was ongoing but got a smile account. They gave me a 500 overdraft, and as I have been struggling ended up using it.
I logged on one day to see I had gone £3 overdrawn from their interest charges and couldnt find any notification so put twenty quid in and left it. Log on today to see they took out £85 in charges on the 21st september and Ive still been charged up until today.
I phoned them and they agreed to waive the charges since the 21st of september so if i get 85 in today I can stop recent charges. Luckily my brother has said he will pay that.
Couple of questions
1) is there anything more I can do or should i count myself lucky? I'm relieved to have some charges waived but to be honest i cant really afford £85
2) I got a post office credit card last month can I put the smile overdraft on this easily and cheaply?0 -
anyone?

Do you still have the £85 outstanding?
How much have they waived?
If charges have been waived then i'm afraid it is unlikely that they will give you any more back as they're not obliged to do so presently. You should have pushed for a full refund (due to it only being £3 and being a new customer) when discussing that at the time.
The charging periods run from the 5th to the 4th of the month, with the charges applied as close to the 21st as possible.0
