    Thank you, hadn`t realised.

Is there a better one of the two? what is the difference please between Intel Core and AMD Athlon 11 X3 445.

I have found a discount code for HP and can get the HP 5720 for £341.10

(also have just seen the s5728 in John Lewis with 2 yr warranty but not wireless and a usb keyboard and mouse it is £379) it has Intel Pentium E5800 - why do they all have to be different?

The HP Pavilion Slimline S5728UK offers great value and is packed with features. Taking up much less space than traditional tower PCs, the slim, sleek design will give you extra space to work or play in, improving your user experience.
A speedy 3.2GHz Intel Pentium processor and a massive 4GB of memory ensure you’ll enjoy fast performance from any of the pre-installed software, whether it’s making a DVD from your holiday video footage or simply typing a letter to send a friend.
The huge 1TB hard drive provides ample room for you to rip your music, back up important documents and store your digital photos uploaded via the 6-in-1 memory card reader.
The S5728UK features a DVD burner which can handle all popular DVD media and supports LightScribe technology – a nifty way of burning silkscreen-quality labels directly onto your newly created DVD using LightScribe-compatible discs.
Six USB ports ensure enough connectivity for any external devices you may wish to attach including compatible digital camcorders, cameras and portable music devices. It includes the Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) operating system and a 2-year guarantee for your peace of mind.

    Software Included:
    Microsoft® Office Starter 2010
    HP Power Assistant
    HP MediaSmart Suite
    Windows Live Applications
    Cyberlink DVDSuite
    HP Music Station
    HP Games Console
Norton Online Backup (30 day trial)
    EasyBits Magic Desktop
    Microsoft Internet Explorer
    Adobe Reader
    Adobe Flash Player
    Windows Media Center

In fairness to DSG, I have bought several things (white goods & electronics) from Currys and Dixons, and don't have complaints.

I would always choose Dell over Acer though.

thanks for replying, I was reading some Dell reviews on their website and it would seem their customer service hasn`t improved since I had my dell over 5 years ago. I`m thinking of going for the HP one direct from HP (not got John Lewis 2 year warranty) but got everything else I want and didn`t think £341 is too bad a price. Of course its more updated that my last one with Windows 7.
Only major thing different is that it is AMD athlon processor and not Intel - but I`m not really sure how these differ and if it will make a difference to me.

You can check processors on https://www.cpubenchmark.net where each one is given a score (the higher the better).

According to http://smidgenpc.com/2010/05/07/laptop-reliability-ratings-which-laptop-is-really-most-reliable/ (and my experience!), HP are the least reliable brand.

I`ve just looked and it would seem that the Dell one with Intel core i3 is better than the HP with AMD Ahtlon 11 X3 445 but this is better than the HP with Intel pentium that John Lewis sell!
I looked at the laptop reviews (its a tower I need) and yes they do rate HP as not so brilliant, but saying that this laptop I am on is my daughters and we bought it for her nearly 4 years ago (wasn`t a cheap one - maybe we have been lucky)
I had a lot of problems with a Dell tower a few years ago that was when I ditched it for an HP!

    Decisions, decisions!!

Do they all come with ethernet? not sure what that is either! (can`t you tell I' m of the age that didn`t have computers in school!)

No excuse on this bit of the forum, :p, plenty on here that didn't grow up with computers, some (not me) had to use ink and a quill pen. :D

    Good luck with your search.
    Move along, nothing to see.

At least I was able to use a fountain pen and ink!

I think I`ll just give in and not bother.. its doing my head in, as I don`t know which tower is the better one. Or if I really should be considering something bigger. Think a strong coffee is called for!

It wouldn`t do anything, kept having blue screens with error messages then it just went black. Took it to local repairer who is really good and it didn`t even flicker when he connected it, he tested whatever he needed to and said ,,,, had one (can`t remember what it was) buy it wasn`t repairable. I beleive him as he has sorted a laptop and stuff out in the past and if he can repair her would. So it `died` and now I have no tower just daughters hp laptop (until she wants it back!!) so need to find something..soon`ish
